Amazon.com Product Description

The Tasco Offshore binoculars series has gained a reputation over the years as being among the finest marine binoculars on the market. Quality BaK-4 prisms deliver an extremely bright, clear picture -- a critical feature to have when you're scanning for navigational markers, other boats, or feeding fish. Dry-nitrogen purged and sealed with o-rings, Offshore binoculars are completely waterproof in both saltwater and freshwater, making them ready for practically any boating or water sport situation.

The Tasco OS541 Offshore 7 x 50 binoculars feature Rubicon-coated objective lenses for glare-reduction and increased contrast. The ergonomic, porro prism design of the binoculars feature a rubber, no-slip grip section, making them comfortable to grip and easier to hold on to than other binoculars should the weather get rough. With a steady 7x magnification and large 50 millimeter objective lenses -- the most common size for marine applications -- the OS541 Binoculars offer excellent resolution and detail even in low light. To round out these outstanding features, the OS541s also feature an illuminated red compass, range-finding reticle, tripod adapter fitting, carrying pouch and neck strap.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Ergonomics, Slightl Marred, October 10, 2007
This pair of binoculars features a built in compass that is especially useful for inshore navigation and taking bearings on channel- and land-marks. The compass is illuminated by sunlight during the day and a battery-powered light at night. The substantial housing seems to fit well in the hands of both large and small navigator and the rubber eyecups accommodate eyeglass wearers.
The only problem with these is that there is separate focusing for each ocular and the focussing mechanism is slow. At sea, this isn't much of a problem, but it's annoying at closer distances like those encountered in the woods on land.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly high quality for the price, June 11, 2010

Of course, we wanted Steiner Commanders for our boat, but what you want and what you can afford are rarely the same!

So we settled on these and have found them to be high quality considering the low price. Great for people who need binoculars for inshore cruising, but are not hardcore sailors. These are not stabilized, either, which adds hundreds of dollars to the cost anyway.

I am happy with my new Tasco binoculars but the left eye rubber eyepeice has broken off the first time I used them.
I must find repairer in Australia now. (sigh)
