I am happy with my new Tasco binoculars but the left eye rubber eyepeice has broken off the first time I used them.
I must find repairer in Australia now. (sigh)

The compass is illuminated by sunlight during the day and a battery-powered light at night. The substantial housing seems to fit well in the hands of both large and small navigator and the rubber eyecups accommodate eyeglass wearers.
The only problem with these is that there is separate focusing for each ocular and the focussing mechanism is slow. At sea, this isn't much of a problem, but it's annoying at closer distances like those encountered in the woods on land.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly high quality for the price, June 11, 2010

Of course, we wanted Steiner Commanders for our boat, but what you want and what you can afford are rarely the same!

So we settled on these and have found them to be high quality considering the low price. Great for people who need binoculars for inshore cruising, but are not hardcore sailors. These are not stabilized, either, which adds hundreds of dollars to the cost anyway.
