5.0 out of 5 stars Good bye BagPhone technology

October 18th update;
When marketing says "up to 30 feet" it means "less than 30 feet.
The camera has done/does everything they claim it will do so I see no reason to lower the rating. After handling/using this camera for a couple of weeks I am very happy with its usability.
See the IR pix I posted to the camera.

Con: So what. If this is fast triggering I can't imagine what slow is like. This camera is small in size but not in features. Nice price too!

Very simple to set up. Just follow the instructions in the manual.
I had read of many problems with memory cards, I've had none.
SanDisk 256mb - works fine
Kingston 4GB class 4 - works fine
Transcend 4GB class 2 - works fine
I formatted all of these cards on the computer, popped them into the camera and they worked.

The camera does everything the marketing folks say it does, maybe more.
It has lots of timing/delay options that are a breeze to set.

It will probably not replace my (twice the$$) Cutteback & it will not replace my (twice the $$) Moultrie, The Moultrie replaced boat anchor.

I am very happy to be the first to review this camera this camera on Amazon.com
If I encounter any problem with the camera I will report them here.
Take a look at the images I posted.

Con: So what. If this is fast triggering I can't imagine what slow is like. I've got pics of the butt of a doe after walking completely across the camera's field of view about 10 feet out ... that or it waited for the yearling following to trigger. It doesn't trigger on animals smaller than a deer... set it up over a "compost pile" (ie where we dump our food scraps) and the food was gone but no pics, also watched a fox walk in front of it to no effect. And if that's not enough, the water seal leaks. Perhaps I got a bad one but this camera doesn't cut it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tasco Trail Cam with Night Vision, January 3, 2011

Haven't had the camera for long, but got some low light, night and day time pictures that came out great. I tested the camera in my backyard. Now it is out in the woods and will have to withstand the elements.... While in the backyard only had a little snow. So we'll see how water proof the camera is. Can't comment on the camera's response speed. I did get some pictures without animals, but maybe the camera was triggered by a bird. So far I'm happy with it and I hope it'll take some great pictures for me.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent Game Camera, March 16, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Tasco 5MP Trail Cam with Night Vision, Black (Sports)
I actually purchased two of these cameras. It takes very clear pictures during day light hours. I have found that the range of the camera is accurate to 15'. I put the cameras out 30' away from where I had corn and did not get a single picture over 7 days. I then moved the cameras closer and captured pics as expected.

I then put one of the cameras on the same tree with a Cuddie Back. The Cuddie Back had 120 pics over a 4 day period and the Tasco had 45 (the Cuddie Back had much longer range).

the night time pics are decent but the camera has to be right on the deer. This Camera only has 16 LEDs which is half of what most Game Camera's have. I went this route trying to save a few dollars. I wished I would have just bought one good camera.

The Cameras do work and if you are on a tight budget, then by all means. My advice, spend more money and get a different camera. I would not buy this camera again.

1.0 out of 5 stars Returned - Slow to trigger Time and Date Stamping incorrect, January 23, 2011
This review is from: Tasco 5MP Trail Cam with Night Vision, Black (Sports)
Received as Christmas gift. Setup and used for 3 weeks to "watch" my house. I found that it would not trigger at 30Ft. - more like 10 Ft. Missed people walking right by it at times. Had it set up on post in some hedges with clear line of sight. I reset and reconfigured countless times and undoubtedly set it properly. Date/time stamp never worked correctly as only an hour or sometimes minutes would pass between night and day. The month/day did not advance. The pictures were intermittent in quality. Night photos were not great as though you can determine it is a car or a dog but not anything more specific than that. Maybe this was just a "lemon" but definitely how this camera performed for me. I would not recommend. I returned and received a gift card and will try another brand.

3.0 out of 5 stars Tasco Trail Cam, December 6, 2010
This review is from: Tasco 5MP Trail Cam with Night Vision, Black (Sports)
Nice size and decent price, but I am on the second Camera. I had to take first one back as it did not take any pictures, but all white shots or blurred visions. I thought it was infrared, but the red light goes on when I walk in front of it, so that must warn animals. With this one, still no animals recorded on it, just a few of the driveway, the rest of the 50+ blurred or white. I used new batteries and card. Placed it in different locations, still nothing worth seeing. The setup was easy, but then it asks for two dates to enter? I think this one is defective also. Would like some feedback as to what I may be doing wrong.

I just want to put a quick note down to let everyone know that I am pleased with this product. Have not used the two that I purchased for very long. However, for the couple weeks that I have used them they have worked very well. I have them in video clip mode and they have done very well night and day. I will follow up with more detail after I have used them for a longer period of time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Alot of bang for your buck, August 2, 2011
This review is from: Tasco 5MP Trail Cam with Night Vision, Black (Sports)
This is the smallest of over 50 trail cams that I have looked at measuring about 3 in x 1.5 in x 4 in. I got such good pictures with the first one that I bought 2 more and haven't had any problems with them either. It has a wide angle sensor - the curved shiny dark thing near the top as apposed to a narrow beam sensor usually round and white. The wide angle sensor picks up the animal when it does not even cross the centerline of the camera but they do not sense as far. I had problems in failure to sense with trailcams using the narrow sensors as many animals did not cross the beam. I like the wide sensors the best. I hung the cam up on a post right below a $200 Bushnell trophy XLT and compared pics, sensing, and trigger speed and found them to be comparable out to 30 feet. The bushnell would trigger consistantly out to 45 and occasionally to 75 feet. The Tasco 5mp consistantly to 30 and occasionally to 45 feet. picture quality was the same during the day but not nearly as bright at night having half as many IR bulbs as the bushnell xlt. You can still tell how many points a deer has but not as well. The night pics will be fuzzy with both cams on moving game as the shutter speed slows to allow enough exposure (absorb IR light). They are clear if the game is still. Nice clear day pics of my dog jumping. By setting the cam up not pointing into the sun it can detect the heat of the animal in contrast to the background more easily and trigger - something I learned with cams having poor triggering capabilities. Point them north if possible not east, west, or south. This cam has given me the best bang for the buck of all the trail cams I have used. I love the size for packing and the 6 month battery life (or more) on 4AA - energizer lithium. I have 6 months on one with over 1000 pics and the voltage is still over 1.55 volts in each battery.
