A real gem!,
By
This review is from: Tassajara Dinners & Desserts (Hardcover)
This cookbook is a real gem. The recipes are quite unusual but they are also simple and very clearly presented. I have tried quite a few and they have been uniformly delicious. As someone on a restricted diet which can get quite boring, I have been particularly pleased to find so many interesting wheat and dairy-free recipes.Wonderful as the recipes are, the photos and stories throughout the book are what make it a real treasure. The photos are instructive, enticing and artful. And the stories from cook-apprentices at the Zen Mountain Center are touching and funny. The book is so lovingly and artistically put together that it is a pleasure to flip through, and it makes a great gift.

This is a beautiful, readable and "doable" cookbook. The text and directions are clear, perfectly sequential and even include potential pitfals. Cooking vegetarian has become both peaceful and tasty!

This cookbook is not only beautiful, but also totally functional. The recipes are well-written, simple, and the directions are easy to follow. The stories included also convey a wonderful aspect of the 'Tassajara Spirit'... I would recommend this book for anyone wanting to add some wonderful vegetarian recipes to their repertoire - either for day-to-day use, or to impress at a dinner party.

Any who visit the Tassajara Zen Center know about its careful routines and practices, and this cookbook offers a host of vegan and vegetarian recipes perfect for those adopting a gentler diet. Cook's stories in sidebars include topics such as 'How to Cook Vegetables and Let Go of Trying to Please Everyone' and accompany dishes such as Tofu Lasagna with Mushrooms, Goat Cheese and Chard and Parmesan Polenta Squares. Main dishes, desserts and more are packed with color photos throughout, making for an inviting vegetarian cookbook.

The food in this book is scrumptious. I'm not a vegetarian, but I'm trying to incorporate more vegetarian meals into my household's dinners. This book is great for that. It's clearly written and has some wonderful photos as well. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is that some of the recipes are a little labor intensive for my particular purposes. However, foodies with slow-food time are going to love this.
