The Ding Dong Devils get out of the garage and head for the surf in this rum-fueled romp to a rocking beach blast! They hit a few Tiki bars on the way and want you to join them. The band's affable, party-time vibe makes that an easy offer to accept. And you'd be a fool not to. Especially when tracks like the woozy "Mai Tais In The Moonlight" make the most sense after you're three mugs deep into the titular libation. Don't worry about getting too tipsy. There's a few one-phrase ditties ("Tassel Hassle," "The Belly Dancers Of Bali Bali," "Tiki Boots") that you'll still be able to sing along to no matter how soused you are.

The story-songs are standouts, especially when they take a bit of a sci-fi, voodoo tinged spin and add just a touch of menace like on "Leopard Man" and "Jungle Doctor". Another highlight is "False Idols Put A Curse On You", a sort of paved paradise lament for Tikiphiles, detailing the tragic destruction of a Polynesian restaurant and the subsequent retribution by the gods that once dwelled there. A similar tale is told in "Ballad Of A Taboo Image" in which a carving from a far-away isle eventually finds a happy home with a collector, but not before being humiliatingly used as tacky decor in a seafood joint. Polynesian pop enthusiasts or anyone that has rummaged though thrift shops for the perfect island accoutrements for their backyards or bachelor pads will surely get a kick out of these tunes. An appreciation for the bygone era of Tiki temples and the relics and recipes left in their wake is recommended but not required to enjoy this set of songs. Even newcomers to cocktail culture can listen and learn just what is in a Suffering Bastard or a Rob Roy anyway.

The Ding Dong Devils create a fun and unique sound that liven up any party! Almost a crash collision between Martin Denny, They Might Be Giants, The Hula Girls & maybe even a bit of the B-52's!
Highly recommend getting a copy of this disc!

I have known a Ding Dong for quite some time... And I must say, this musical masterpiece rivals the works of the greats..Lest we forget the 'Moist and Meaty', the mighty 'cheeseburger',and the forever great 'This Is Edwin'..who I hear had quite the super bassist among the ranks...If you do not know a Ding Dong I suggest you try the Devils 'Tassels Mai-Tais & Mischief' as a primer for understanding what is truly great about music...When I wear out my copy I plan to buy 2 more.
