Found this cookbook in a bookstore in Croatia,

This review is from: A Taste of Croatia (Paperback)
We thoroughly enjoyed the cuisine during a recent trip in Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia-Herzgovina. Near the end of the trip, I went in to a bookstore in Dubrovnik and asked if they had any cookbooks in English. This was the book that the clerk showed me. So I bought it and read it on the plane home. I am now ordering several copies for friends who made the trip with us. The author's story brings back memories from our trip and the recipes are the food that we ate. We've only been home a week and I've already made several of the recipes. They are well laid out with simple ingredients. I look forward to trying many more.

A Great Way to Dispel Winter Doldrums,
By
This review is from: A Taste of Croatia (Paperback)
Karen Evenden's book describes sailing the Mediterranean, specifically the Croatian coast, in beautiful detail. It is a great way to escape from the long, cold winter and be transported to another world full of sunshine, friendly people and delicious food. The recipes are easy to follow and full of fresh, seasonal ingredients. If the reader isn't fortunate ehough to visit Croatia, at least he/she can savor the cuisine.

A croatian cookbook with only one Lamb Recipe????,
By
This review is from: A Taste of Croatia (Paperback)
With a shortage of soups, boring spaghetti recipes (which are simply Italian recipes with minor variations) and Cevapcici or Raznjici? No only one lamb recipe... dissapointed.

We got this for my father-in-law for Christmas. Since he is 83, I don't expect his to cook from him but he liked the pictures and travelogue. While I haven't made anything yet, I expect to. The recipes look good. The only disappointment is that the author doesn't use Vegeta (a really common seasoning in Croatia) in any of the recipes because she says it isn't available in the US. We can get it at the local specialty market no problem

Tastes and travels in Croatia..............,
By
This review is from: A Taste of Croatia (Paperback)
Did you know that throwing a couple of corks in the cooking pot with the octopus while simmering will make it more tender? It seems to be a custom practised widely in Croatia. This is only one tidbit of added information in the Cook's Notes in this exciting travel memoir and cookbook written by a "fearless foodie." With attention focused on Croatia as a travel destination, you can use this book to prepare for your trip and enjoy the recipes when you return.

This is a wonderful travel memoir. I learned so much about the country of Croatia and it's culture. The writing made me want to visit Croatia myself. We look forward to sampling the recipes. They sound delicious. The ingredients are fresh and easy to find.

This cookbook is so much more than a collection of recipes! I have been interested in visiting Croatia & the writer has so piqued my interest I wish I could catch the next flight! Almost every page has sidebars with information about the country, the culture, & her fascinating experiences there. And what's more, the recipes are interesting, doable, & good!

The recipes in this book are tasty, easy to cook, and can easily be adapted to ingredients on hand. I am cooking my way through and my family is loving it. While I am familiar with lots of Croatian dishes, they are usually difficult or very technique sensitive. The insights, suggestions and travelogue keep me reading while cooking.
