So I needed a new cookbook to help me start preparing healthier meals for my family of five, but with a few conditions: 1) The food had to actually taste good (not like cardboard!) and include a solid variety of recipes. After all, who besides Hollywood celebrities actually wants to eat that stereotypical diet dinner of boring, bland grilled chicken or fish and veggies...

I was disappointed! Recipes are not that unusual. The portion sizes have just been reduced.

So I needed a new cookbook to help me start preparing healthier meals for my family of five, but with a few conditions: 1) The food had to actually taste good (not like cardboard!) and include a solid variety of recipes. After all, who besides Hollywood celebrities actually wants to eat that stereotypical diet dinner of boring, bland grilled chicken or fish and veggies and rice every day of life? 2) The recipe ingredients had to be affordable for the average family budget, not comprised of dozens of expensive, "exotic" fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices I've never heard of. 3) It wouldn't hurt if the recipes were actually easy to follow, either. The Taste Of Home Comfort Food Diet Cookbook fits the bill on all counts. Examples of recipes the whole family has especially enjoyed (and really there are no complete "flops" in this cookbook at all) include Tasty Italian Chicken, Chili Sauce Meat Loaf, Creamy Swiss Steak, Slow-Cooked Sweet 'N' Sour Pork, Beef And Spinach Lasagna (yes, lasagna!) and Dijon-Crusted Fish. There are also recipes for breakfast, lunch, and dessert, and to top it all off, the extra recipes you'll get with the included, free 1-year subcription to Healthy Cooking magazine make this cookbook an excellent value for the already-low price.

The recipes I have tried are tasty, though I am surprised how many call for butter, salt and other ingredients that are usually no-nos. The recipes in the book seem to be exactly the same as the ones in Taste of Home: Everyday Light Meals, so don't be tempted to get them both (as I had). This book has an intro and appendix with worksheets and tips for weight loss, whereas the other book focuses on lightening up favorite recipes - but the recipes are exactly the same in both books. The recipes are organized differently: this book has them sorted by calorie count; whereas the Taste of Home: Everyday Light Meals book has them sorted by the categories you usually seen in a cookbook (appetizers, desserts, pasta dishes, etc).

This is a wonderful cookbook with easy to prepare recipes with items most will have on hand. It does compile the recipes of the Taste of Home Comfort Food Diet Cookbooks of 2008 and 2009 with about a dozen other recipes. I have both those as well and probably wouldn't have purchased this one had I known it was a compilation of those two books. I've used many of the recipes from those two books over the past couple years and have enjoyed them all and used them many times. I'll pass the old books on to my daughter and keep the single one.

One of my biggest complaints about diets is I don't eat cabbage soup or fat free mayonnaise in my real life! I have wanted to find a way to diet and still eat creamy foods and desserts! Well I found it in this Cook Book from Taste of Home. The food choices in this book are made with ingredients that I usually shop for; when I'm not on a diet. Its easy to follow recipes tell you the portion size that relates to the calorie count, so that you can keep in control.
In conclusion, the recipes are really good, you would make them again and again....I have already lost 10 lbs!
!!No Kidding, 10 lbs!!

I couldn't wait to start using some of the recipes from this cookbook. First, I scanned over the entire cookbook, clipping pages of the recipes that peaked my interest. I just purchased a new belgian waffle iron, so, the Waffles w/peach-berry compote sounded "tasty". It didn't dissapoint. Being an avid reader, the success stories of the featured individuals gave me motivation to start my own fitness program as well. I give this cookbook two "thumbs up".

This is now my very favorite cook book. Delicious, easy to prepare recipes for the whole family, most with "normal" easy to find ingredients. Every recipe includes nutrition information including fat/ fiber/ calories which I need to calculate my weight watcher's points. I highly recommend this one, I am using it several times per week and love it.

I recently attended a diabetic class and need to adjust to a healthier diet. This book was very helpful with menu suggestions and all the "numbers" I needed to help me make good choices. The recipes are pretty easy with ingredients that you would normally have on hand. It made the task simple and my family has enjoyed every new meal. I cook for all of us and still cover my needs. It has taken a lot of the planning out of the meals and cooking has become fun again. I highly recommend it for someone who needs to plan their meals carefully - which is EVERYONE!

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. Usually recipes seem to be for gourmet cooks or have ingredients that I don't have in my area but this book has some very good items which I look forward to making. It's also very easy to follow and has many great photos of the finished dish.
