I was quite dissapointed with the condition of the three cookbooks I purchased. All three had damage even though they were all rapped and looked to be new.

5.0 out of 5 stars A New Classic Cookbook, December 28, 2007
This review is from: The Taste of Home Cookbook with Entertaining CD (Ring-bound)
Youngest daughter moved out of the house in June, but she still comes home for most of her meals. She's never shown much interest in cooking and I was surprised when her Christmas list included a request for a good cookbook. Youngest son decided that he'd get this for her, so I showed him my Betty Crocker Cookbook and my Better Homes & Gardens Cookbook, suggested he buy either one of those, and sent him down to the local bookstore.

He came home with The Taste of Home Cookbook instead. What can I say? The boy's a genius.

I'm partial to recipes from Taste of Home magazine. They come from the kind of down-home style cooking I grew up with, and the ingredients tend to be common, everyday things you probably already have in your fridge, freezer, or cupboard. But best of all, everything is yummy. So when youngest daughter unwrapped her cookbook and I saw what it was, I knew that, at the very least, the recipes would be good.

But this recipe book is much more than a collection of good recipes. It's the sort of cookbook that's perfect for a novice cook, because it includes simple step-by-step instructions, with photos, for just about anything an inexperienced cook might want to know, like how to carve the various cuts of meats and how to to prepare the different varieties of potatoes, for instance. I could go on about all the goodies included (conversion charts, substitution charts, detailed nutritional information), but let's just say that any information you need for choosing or preparing food can probably be found somewhere in The Taste of Home Cookbook.

And it's all put together in a handy ring-bound format similar to the famous Better Homes and Gardens Cookbook: hard back, tabbed, with five rings. As an added (and very handy!) bonus, there are two heavy clear plastic pages for protecting the paper pages you are using from your cooking smudges or splatter. There's what's called the Entertaining CD included as well, but I haven't seen it, so I can't tell you whether that extra is a true bonus.

This cookbook would be perfect for a wedding shower or housewarming gift, but it'd be a mistake to think it only suitable for beginners. I'm an experienced cook, and it's been a while since I've had so much fun thumbing through a new cookbook, so you might want to consider The Taste of Home Cookbook when Grandma's birthday rolls around, too.

4.0 out of 5 stars great recipes for grdeat cooks, November 20, 2007
This review is from: The Taste of Home Cookbook with Entertaining CD (Ring-bound)
recently I received my copy of Taste of Home cookbook. I have tried several recipes in preparation for Thanksgiving and found them true
to form. The recipes are easy to follow; and the ingreients used can
be found in any local food market. All that I made came out wonderful.
A great cookbook for beginners as well as seasoned cooks. JLN

I bought this book as a gift for my grandson's new bride. She's new to cooking. She's had the book almost a year and tells me that it's helped her improve by leaps and bounds. Plain, good food, great pictures. A wonderful first cookbook.

5.0 out of 5 stars The one book, April 14, 2008

I love this cookbook. I have to say that TOH is the one book where every recipe I cook comes out exactly like the picture. Not one recipe have I cooked that sounds good has come out bad. This is one that you have to own. I own at least 15 TOH cookbooks and I use them all.

I was amazed at the quality of this cookbook for the price. It was wrapped in original packaging and in perfect condition. I saw the same Taste of Home cookbook at the local buying club at double the cost. I will definitely purchase again from Amazon. The recipes are awesome and color photos beautiful. I am very happy with my purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice cookbook, but disappointed!, May 27, 2010

I really like this cookbook, it has some nice features about it. For instance, the charts are helpful. One thing disappointing about it though is that the cover was coming disconnected from the rivet on the binder. It fortunately was able to be fixed with a little ingenuity. My friend liked the one I ordered so well that she ordered 3 of them & so did I, one for me & one for each of my daughters.
