5.0 out of 5 stars Best cookbook ever!
I have been cooking for several years and have an extensive cookbook collection (including two large Betty Crocker books), but when I bought this on a whim, I had no idea how good it would be. It has recipes that I don't have anywhere else, cheese balls, fudge, buttermilk fried chicken...the list just goes on and on. Every recipe I have made so far is delicious! It...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not What it Claims
The cover of the book says "One Recipe four ways". That led me to expect there to be four versions of the SAME recipe....the classic version, a time-saving way to make the same recipe, a lite calorie version, and one sized down for only two people. There was NOT a recipe of which this was true. Yes you will find recipes that meet one of the criteria and some that...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great as usual, October 3, 2008

This review is from: The Taste of Home Cookbook, Revised Edition (Ring-bound)
I was surprised to see the negative review here. I have always been a huge fan of Taste of Home recipes. I get the magazine, buy the booklets in the grocery store line, and have made countless recipes from their website. This cookbook is no exception. There are tons of tips, each category has an alphabetized index, and color photos of each recipe, just like we would expect. I think the only thing I was disappointed with was that to save page space, many of the recipes are split up, the first part on one page, the rest on the next. Otherwise, I've already made a couple of the recipes from this book and each one has been great. I think out of the hundreds of TOH recipes I have tried, I have only tossed two.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST Cookbook!, November 17, 2008

I love this cookbook! It has a WEALTH of cooking information, such as cuts of meats, what temperatures to cook them and how to cook them. Even has food equivalents, kitchen basics like weight and measure equivalents, measuring techniques, kitchen cutlery, ingredient substitutions, chopping techniques, cookware, bakeware, food safety, table setting, lightening recipes, menu-planning, storage guidelines, herbs and spices, alphabetical index, and it has a glossary with terms. It also has four different ways of preparing the same type recipe! Very helpful aid in teaching your children to cook! VERY PLEASED!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Cookbook ever!!!, April 29, 2009

I bought this cookbook on a whim at a local Taste of Home cooking show and paid $25 for it. I have spent the past several days going through it from cover to cover. I tried my first recipe from it last night(Pesto Pork Roast), and it was wonderful and simple. I have several more recipes lined up to try asap.
I do not understand the negative review. I collect recipe books and I don't have anything that compares to this one. Recipes that one would think too difficult to even try, are made simple in Taste of Home. Plus, in the book I bought at the show there is a free 1 yr subscription to the magazine, which is a $23.95 value. I'm ordering several through Amazon. It would be a great wedding gift because of all of the handy, basic tips and instructions. The Taste of Home Cookbook- New Revised: One Recipe four ways

5.0 out of 5 stars An Amazing Cookbook!, September 9, 2009
This review is from: The Taste of Home Cookbook, Revised Edition (Ring-bound)
I'd been on the hunt for the perfect cookbook for a while, only to disappointed time and again. The Taste of Home Cookbook: One Recipe Four Ways is an instant favorite. It's loaded with great recipes and tips! You can use this book every day of the year and still have recipes you'd love to try. I was brought up in a country kitchen, helping my mom make apple pies and roast chicken Sunday dinners, so the "One Recipe Four Ways" feature is perfect for me. The "Serves 2 Recipes" allow me to cook those great home-style meals for me and my husband without fear of overeating or wasting food. If you're trying to decide between this book and another, this is definitely the one to get.

Big plus, the book included a free year long subscription to Taste of Home magazine ($24 value)!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is my "Go-To" cookbook - An EXCELLENT cookbook, February 28, 2010
This review is from: The Taste of Home Cookbook, Revised Edition (Ring-bound)
The Taste of Home Cookbook surprised me. I have been cooking for years and I am so used to buying cookbooks that look so promising and then finding that there are actually very few recipes that I can utilise. Every recipe in this book that I have tried has turned out beautifully! I am not one to follow directions exactly, but have no trouble modifying these recipes for my family (Not the Baking of course). My husband has even begun to use it & now swears by it. The only other cookbooks that I use from my collection are the Jean Pare cookbook series. I find that I have no need for any others. I keep the others to browse occasionally.
I highly recommend this book to anyone that needs a "go-to" cookbook in their collection, especially for novice cooks. Each recipe has detailed instructions,a photo & breakdown of the nutrition value.
It has excellent tabbed chapters on:
- Food equivalents (inside front cover) & Substitutions (inside rear cover)
- Kitchen Basics:
/Measuring tools & Techniques
/Cutting & Chopping techniques (description & photos)
/Utensils,pans,appliances -what you need & how to use them (with photos)
/Food Safety
/Menu planning pointers
/Glossary of cooking terms & what they mean (with photos)
- Appetizers & Beverages (91 recipes)
- Soups & Sandwiches (64 recipes)
- Beef & Veal (54 recipes)
- Lamb (21 recipes)
- Poultry (64 recipes)
- Seafood (60 recipes)
- Grilling (57 recipes)
- Eggs & Cheese (44 recipes)
- Beans & Grains (32 recipes)
- Pasta & Pasta Sauce (26 recipes)
- Vegetables (88 recipes)
- Fruit (69 recipes)
- Salads & Salad Dressings (51 recipes)
- Sauces & Condiments (32 recipes)
- Quick Breads (51 recipes)
- Yeast Breads (51 recipes)
- Pies & Tarts (34 recipes)
- Cakes (45 recipes)
- Desserts (53 recipes)
- Cookies & Bars (55 recipes)
- Candies (30 recipes)
- Light & Tasty Dishes (105 recipes)
- Reference & Indexes (37 pages)Contains:
/Storage times -including refrigeration & freezing guidlines
/Herbs & Spices listing with color pictures of spices, description of flavor & tips on
usage
/A section explaining how to read food labels
/Photographs & locations of Beef & Pork cuts
/An index by major ingredient
/An index by food Category
/A reference & Tips Index
- A tabbed section to add your own recipes (I only wish it had a few more pages-it only has 1, but you can add your own)

All in a sturdy 5-ring binder with good quality pages & pictures
It also has a cd inside (In a plastic page/sheath)which I have not used yet.
There is also a clear plastic fairly stiff "page" in the front, that can be placed in front of the recipe that you are using, to protect the page from splashes etc.
I recommend this cookbook highly!

5.0 out of 5 stars Created many recipes and no complaints, December 15, 2009
By
This review is from: The Taste of Home Cookbook, Revised Edition (Ring-bound)
My husband bought this for me for my birthday this past April. I have made many recipes and we have all been happy with each one. Our favorites so far (which I have made often) are the Onion soup and breakfast crepes. The only con on this book, for me, would be that the book is not easy to lay open if you are at the beginning or ending of it due to the hard front or back trying to automatically close. However, you can take the recipes out and use the clear hard page protector to prevent messes on the page. I use a pants hanger which I hang on a cabinet door and attach the recipe with the clips. This keeps it up high and away from messes.

I'm very happy with this attractive book and look forward to finding more favorites for the family.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent cookbook, April 10, 2009

This review is from: The Taste of Home Cookbook, Revised Edition (Ring-bound)
This edition of The Taste of Home Cookbook not only has some award worthy recipes but it also includes sections explaining specific cuts of meat and how to prepare them. In the vegetable section, it decribes each vegetable, a cooking chart and a few recipes to get you started. There are over 18 tabbed sections that cover soups to desserts and everything in between. Included in this ring-bound book is a clear plastic page that can be removed to cover any page to avoid soiling your recipe while being prepared. Not all the recipes come with photos but the ones that do are mouth watering.

I enjoy brousing through this cookbook to find ideas. I then download the recipes from their website (Tasteofhome.com) and print out the recipe. After I have made the recipe, I adjust it to my taste then reprint it, laminate it and add it to my recipe box. It's a great way to gather recipes that you like!
