5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific for weight loss!, April 7, 2008
This review is from: Taste of Home: Everyday Light Meals (Hardcover)
My wife is picking out new recipes from this book every day, and I have to say that this is a surprisingly consistent book when it comes to "light" fare. Most "healthy" cookbooks either contain only one or two winners, or have such delicious fare like sprouts and lima bean brownies. In this book, some recipes have been better than others, but all recipes so far have been good, and best of all, I've lost 30 lbs in the last 2 1/2 months! Granted, I've been working out as well, but I can honestly say this book has definitely had an impact on my weight loss!

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent cookbook, but as always, some hits and misses..., January 28, 2008
This review is from: Taste of Home: Everyday Light Meals (Hardcover)
Excellent pictures of recipes which help me decide what looks appetizing at least, rather than going through the science on a recipe to guess how it's supposed to turn out.

The upside: everything was pictured, *easy* to prepare, and the ingredients have yet to send us on a hunt for something we couldn't find in your average American grocery store.

The downsides: Some of the recipes are very 'American', meaning they appeal to the folks that think ketchup is 'spicy'. I've had to "Bam" a few of these recipes to my liking. The other thing is that there's a lot of interpretation to what "1/2 cup of salsa" could do for a meal. IE: 1/2 cup of pace vs. 1/2 cup of homemade can completely make the meal different. It's no big thing, it just requires some vigilance to make sure it tastes as well as it looks in the picture.

The coffee pot-roast was awesome, but I do NOT suggest making a gravy out of the juices. Rather, it's a perfect match for barbecue sauce. The quesadillas are a 4-star favorite in the house, as well as the macaroni and cheese.

I just recently got this cookbook and have made only 2 things out of it. I have to say, the two I have made (turkey spaghetti pie and spinach bread) have been awesome! So awesome, actually, I have a hard time believing that they are low calorie. I love how they have the calorie count for every recipe with fat content, etc.

My only complaint is that both meals have been a little bland but I just "season to taste" and they are great!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, July 1, 2008
This review is from: Taste of Home: Everyday Light Meals (Hardcover)
I bought this cookbook for a friend's birthday, loved it so much, bought a copy for myself. Wonderful variety of recipes with no weird ingredients. Have not tried a single recipe that I did not like - and have made about 20 or so thus far! Great pictures, recipes are all quick and healthy perfect for weeknight cooking!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Cookbook for Healthy Eating, November 19, 2008
This review is from: Taste of Home: Everyday Light Meals (Hardcover)
I have tried many of the recipes in the cookbook and found them to be excellent. The recipe for the granola bars was a big hit with everyone who has eaten them. The peanut butter brownies did not turn out very well since I may have used some old cocoa. I have tried many, many low-fat, low-carb, low-calorie cookbooks from the public library and this is the first cookbook I actually purchased for myself after returning the cookbook to the library.

This review is from: Taste of Home: Everyday Light Meals (Hardcover)
My wife and I are very picky about what we eat. our food simply has to taste great, have an abundance of flavor and be healthy. The recipes in this book have exceeded our expectations. We have created about 20 recipes so far and 19 of them have be REALLY good. Sorry, can't remember which one was only so-so. Scrap the internet recipes and buy this book!

This book has a picture for every recipe is lists (except for some desserts). It helps you put meals together all the while cutting down the fat and sodium or carbs either--what ever way you are trying to cut down it helps!
Simple recipes, include regular food you would find in your panty.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book, August 31, 2008
This review is from: Taste of Home: Everyday Light Meals (Hardcover)
Had the opportunity to review this book at a family member's home. Recipes are outstanding, and it gives you all the information you need to know the calories, fat content, etc. when you are planning your menu. Book was in new condition, and delivery was so prompt, it arrived the next day after we arrived back home from our trip to Michigan. Recommend the publication, as well as the seller, and Amazon for putting the two together. Thank you, Amazon. G. Ray

We have just starting trying the recipes from this book and everyone has been a hit. If this doesn't help you lower your cholestrol and help loose a little weight, nothing will.
