5.0 out of 5 stars Delicious family recipes and beautiful photos!
I love the Taste of Home cookbooks and magazines! Grandma's Favorites is filled with wonderful recipes. They are "real" recipes....ones that are not hard to make and can be made often. The recipes were submitted by real people who tell about their recipe. They don't have exotic ingredients that are hard to find. Some people will not agree that these are truly "Grandma's"...

2.0 out of 5 stars Whose Grandma cooks like this?
I guess I expected more of a "comfort food" book and this is not it. There are a few recipes that would make me think of Grandma's cooking but most are a hodgepodge of standard recipes that probably only bring raves from fellow family members. I was looking forward to getting cozy and having a good read (I read cookbooks for entertainment as much as I cook from them)...

The recipes were submitted by real people who tell about their recipe. They don't have exotic ingredients that are hard to find. Some people will not agree that these are truly "Grandma's" recipes depending on one's idea of the definition; but this book includes 350 great classic family recipes you will want to try and that your family will love! They are easy to read and call for common ingredients and many of the recipes have photos. It is a wonderful addition to any cook's collection!

I was looking forward to getting cozy and having a good read (I read cookbooks for entertainment as much as I cook from them) and I was let down. Do yourself a favor and spend the money and your time gathering your own family recipes and skip this book. Normally I love Taste of Home but this was a let down.

Great recipes like Chicken and Dumpling Casserole, Turkey with Sausage stuffing, Cheddary Chicken Potpie, Perfect Pot Roast, Herbed Beef Stew, Barbecued Brisket, Standing Rib Roast, Old Fashioned Cabbage Rolls, Salisbury Steak Deluxe. These are the type of classic recipes I grew up with! I cooked corned beef brisket that has cabbage in it, I have never cooked a corned beef brisket before myself but my husbands mother used to cook it. It turned out really good. I am 50, so I can remember some of the old time recipes. (can't believe I would ever be saying that) ;')The recipes have ingredients that are easy to find at the grocery store too. Some of the recipes in the desert section I have not made or seen before but they sound good and look easy. They have a Rhubarb Upside-Down Cake. Which sounds good.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for the family cook., November 7, 2011

I have been getting TASTE OF HOME Magazines for years. I loved that the recipes were tried and true by cooks all across America with nice stories about every recipe. This is important to me because I am not a professional chef and cannot dedicate 2 hours in the kitchen to cook a meal that has 20 ingredients in it. I need recipes that are made from and for people like me. Imagine my pleasure at finding out they compile the years recipes in their magazines in beautiful hard-bound books. The quality of the books are really nice, the pages glossy which helps if you accidently splatter while cooking. There has also never been a recipe I've tried that I havent liked. Now I no longer get the magazines, I just buy the books at the end of the year. A REAL storage saver! Also, the recipes are easily laid out in sections such as "appetizers" "desserts" "sides" etc. which makes everything easy to find. The photos are also mouthwatering and colorful.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Addition to Your Shelf of Cookbooks, March 4, 2011

After I bought this book and tried out a few recipes, I ended up having to get two more copies, one for a friend and one for a family member who also enjoys cooking. I can't recommend this book highly enough. The breakfast items are especially yummy, including the one that we have made multiple times now for a large weekend event, the overnight apple french toast (though, we have now varied it by trying peaches instead of apples, and that was just as good). It disappeared quickly, and several people came to the cooks to ask for the recipe.

I have tried many recipes from this cookbook and, so far, all of them have turned out great. My grandma didn't cook like this (sad to say) but these are the recipes that grandmas should make, and that I am happy to add to my menu.

Nice pictures. Easy to read and follow. Good food. Happy friends and family. What more can you want?
