5.0 out of 5 stars Diverse and probably the best book that Taste of Home has come out with so far
The title really says it all. Wonderfully put together, and filled with good home style cooking meals. This is no means a cookbook of sophisticated cuisines, but for everyday living which is so appealing to the average household. Great ideas for quick throw togethers when the day is too hectic, and many many pictures for those who insist they will only buy cookbooks with...

2.0 out of 5 stars Kinda Disappointing
This book was not what I was expecting. The title is misleading. There are not 645 award winning recipes. The book includes some blue ribbon recipes and other recipes that home cooks contribute. Also, a lot of the recipes use pre-made ingredients like ketchup, mustard and bbq sauce, instead of starting from scratch. Based on how the book is marketed, I was expecting...

Great ideas for quick throw togethers when the day is too hectic, and many many pictures for those who insist they will only buy cookbooks with pictures. Not all recipes are 1st place prize winners, but they are nice incentives to try the dishes along with all the other mouthwatering dishes published in this winner of a cookbook.

5.0 out of 5 stars Winning Recipes:Wonderful Cook Book a must have for every cook, March 22, 2009
This review is from: Taste of Home: Winning Recipes: 645 Recipes from National Cooking Contests (Ring-bound)
Winning Recipes:This is already one of my most favorite cook books I have been able to find something for almost every taste bud in the family,When I received this cook book I immediately looked through every page & read every recipe & found some old favorites with a different flair,I prepared them for my family & they were blown away they thought I came up with the new recipe but I couldn't take the credit I had to let them in on the secret about my new best friend to the kitchen, they were thrilled because that meant allot more to come, yum yum..This cook book just compliments The Taste of Home Cook Books I collect them all & none of them have disappointed me in the kitchen yet or my family they all know when I have prepared something from one of these cook books they are all excited when they see the presentation on the table.I hope you enjoy this & the other wonderful Cook Book's from The Taste of Home Series.I have really enjoyed the ring binder format they come in which makes it easier to use the cook book lays flat for you to use with ease & most of them comes with splash guards which helps protect the pages while your preparing your recipe if you make a mess on the splash guard it wipes right off with ease never ruining your cook book so the cook book will be in wonderful shape for many years to come."Hint you can also use the splash guards to protect your other favorite cook books as well"

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the money!, July 22, 2008

I've been cooking for 30+ years and am by no means a novice.
The recipes in this book are simple to follow, but definitely not health-conscious. You might gain a few pounds just looking at the pictures!
However, I am making this a part of my cookbook collection because of the proven, time-tested recipes. Full of the kinds or recipes "grandma used to make"

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy and Delicious, June 18, 2009

I've been looking for a new recipe book with recipes that don't involve having to go to the grocery store 3 times to get hard to find ingredients that I'm only going to use once. This book is awesome! There are a lot of recipes with innovative ways to use common ingredients that you most likely already have in your pantry. Some of the recipes sound strange (think chicken coated in taco seasoning and combined with salsa and peach preserves), but turn out so wonderful and I usually only have to buy one or two things I may not have on hand (like salsa or sour cream - both of which I will use the leftovers for other things!). I've tried close to a dozen recipes from this book so far and every one has turned out great. Highly recommended if you're looking for some new recipes without the hassel of hunting down exotic ingredients.

*UPDATE*
I've now cooked through close to a third of this cookbook and I haven't had a bad recipe yet. And that's saying alot because I'm a picky eater. From breakfast to dinner to desserts, all have been good! I would recommend this cookbook to anyone, beginner and experienced cook alike. The only thing I would add is that a couple of the recipes I tried were a little bland but nothing that a little garlic or herbs couldn't spice up to my tastes. I think the thing I love most is that you can go through this book and pick out recipes that are very different in taste but use similar ingredients so there isn't any waste. I mostly cook for just my husband and myself, but I use this book when I want to do one big grocery shop and I love that I can go almost an entire month without stepping foot inside a grocery store for except for milk and eggs! I've gone back to this cookbook as often (if not more, sorry grandma!) as I go to my grandma's homemade recipe book full of my family's favorites. What a great find!

In the short time I owned this book I have used several of the easy to follow and uncomplicated recipes. All of them were delicious and all had easy to find ingredients at any local grocery store.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great orignal cookbook, January 2, 2010
This review is from: Taste of Home: Winning Recipes: 645 Recipes from National Cooking Contests (Ring-bound)
This is a great cookbook. I recently received this cookbook and I am really enjoying the new recipes. A lot of cookbooks have the same old thing over and over. This one is great. So many good recipes to try. I have made 5 things already and they are all wonderful. My family keeps saying "this on is a keeper." I would recommend this for the seasoned cook or the new wife who wants to make great food for the man she loves!
Most cookbooks I read thru once or twice sample a few recipes and pass them along. This one will not be leaving my home! Way to good!

Taste of Home "Winning Recipes" is one of the best cookbooks I own. Every recipe I've tried has worked and been delicious. I've even purchased a copy for my mom.
