1.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as I thought, nor a good value.
Some of these just tasted outright bad. Bad. Only the strawberry flavor is good. And at $47, I felt ripped off. Not as fun as it looks to try these foods. The majority of these do not taste sweet. Some taste weird, and unpleasant. Some taste like raisins. Even the Melon flavor was not as good as it seemed.

This review is from: Taste of Japan #8: Mochi Sampler (6 Packs: Chestnut, Melon, Orange, Strawberry, Uji Matcha, Red Bean, Original) - 6 Packs
This particular selection of mochi/manju will satisfy many palates and with it's lovely packaging, it is a perfect, and unique, hostess gift (especially if you're the hostess!) The mochi are not overly sweet, a problem I've found to be rather prevalent with other brands, and though they are smaller than most mochi out there, they are just as flavorful and their petite size makes you savor each bite all the more. Whether you are a seasoned mochi addict, or new to this traditional sweet, I'm certain you won't find this collection to be a disappointment.

Lots of variety in a delicious doughy cookie. There are different rice flavorings and filling, some better than others. Each cookie is kind of small, but it's better for sampling that way. Goes great on an appetizer tray.

I've always loved mochi but can't find it in Little Rock and didn't want to go through the trouble of making my own. This arrived quickly and in good condition. It tastes fresh and soft, not stale at all. If you like mochi, you won't be dissapointed.

I wasn't sure if these would arrive on time, or if they would taste good. I was surprised on both counts: they arrived within a week (despite overseas shipping), and were soft, pleasant and delicious. Definitely worth a try. They may not be the perfectly fresh mochi you can buy as a street food or sweet, but they are a delightful introduction to mochi and delicious whether a novice or an experienced mochi fan.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet and filling, February 18, 2012
This review is from: Taste of Japan #8: Mochi Sampler (6 Packs: Chestnut, Melon, Orange, Strawberry, Uji Matcha, Red Bean, Original) - 6 Packs
My favorites are the fruit-flavored cakes. The strawberry, orange and melon cakes have a jam filling with marshmallow paste separating the inside from the outside, which gives them a spongy texture. The red bean and uji matcha (I don't know what that means) cakes aren't as good, unfortunately. They have an odd taste and often have thin, plastic-like pieces in the filling that I think mean the beans weren't ground up well enough. I wish the seller would let buyers pick and choose which packs they would like in the set.
