All the best moments are from one CD,

This review is from: A Taste Like Ginger (Audio CD)
The potential listeners of this CD can be divided into 2 groups - those who know of early Chandeen, and those who are being introduced through this compilation. For the latter, this work is unquestionably a triumph; Chandeen is uniquely beautiful and pleasantly listenable, with a distinct signature sound that is blissful and dark at the same time. But those who have heard the earlier works, and Jutland (RTD 391-0122-2, Hyperium importt) in particular, will realize just how much has been lost. The passion, shadow, and sensuality prevalent in songs such as Ginger, Lightning, Young Days, Snow, Drift, and Strawberry Passion are unforgettable - once you hear these in sequence, Chandeen may well become one of your all-time favorite works. Fans of Dead Can Dance, Delerium, and even Cocteau Twins will be thrilled with these songs. But compared to what has come since, with new vocalists, new direction, and less creativity, the past triumphs of this group remain on a plateau considerably above the present collection. This is a great disk, but not nearly as good as it could be, and many opportunities were missed in the track selection. Search out the back catalog if you can! ;)

I have two other Chandeen cd's they are extremely hard to come by in the U.S I was glad when this came out on a U.S label. If you like projekt type bands, as well as early 4AD bands you'll love Chandeen.. Two females voices, which are wonderful sing with a little accent, but it really adds to the music overall. Their early work was considered "goth pop" but it seems as if they are in a transition period right now, some is atmospheric, and others are quite ethereal.. beautiful lyrics, and beautiful music..

A hidden gem worth unraveling,

Chandeen is a truly unique group. They've got a very eclectic sound and I'm constantly looking for variety like that. I'm sad to report that they recently broke up, as so many great acts do after just a few albums, but the music this German group did put out has been nothing short of amazing. The distinct voice of Catrin Mallon from Edera guest sings on "Anyone's View To The Inside" but the heavenly sirens of Stephanie Harich and Antje Schulz are the bewitching lead vocalists. The material found on 'A Taste Like Ginger' is really a compilation of songs from several of their previous releases and I hope to hunt them all down soon but this is a wonderful introduction to their diverse assortment of style. Most of these tracks will appeal to fans of ethereal Goth but there are many world inspired as well as ambient, electronic influences. Either way, if you enjoy beautiful, haunting melodies that'll often touch the core of your soul with deeply felt emotions than buy this before it's impossible to find! Similar artists: Edera, Sophya, Rhea's Obsession and Dreamside.
