5.0 out of 5 stars Yummy
I saw this on Martha Stewart and it took me six months to remember to buy it... yum. Money well spent. I was already vegitarian, for 8 years, so I don't remember the exact taste of meatloaf, but even if these recipes aren't exact replicas, they are good. The meatless/soy reuben is delicious and the thousand island dressing does taste exactly like the real except...

3.0 out of 5 stars a book for cooks with penty of time on their hands
All of the recipes in this book look delicious but after having the book for almost a year I have only tried out a few. The reason? Most of the main course recipes take over an hour to prepare. The Not-Meat Loaf, for example, is described as taking over 60 minutes and that doesn't include the time it takes to prepare cooked brown rice and lentils the recipe...

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the best, highest quality cookbook I own!, January 16, 2000

This review is from: The Taste for Living Cookbook: Mike Milken's Favorite Recipes for Fighting Cancer (Hardcover)
I am not sick, do not have cancer or heart disease (at least that I am aware of). I bought this book - and subsequently the companion book - because I am interested in eating healthy. What a surprise! Not only am I eating healthy, I am eating the best prepared food I have ever made. Every assertion this book has made about itself is true. Every recipie I try is an amazing success. Every single one! It was my lucky day when I came across this book!

The Not-Meat Loaf, for example, is described as taking over 60 minutes and that doesn't include the time it takes to prepare cooked brown rice and lentils the recipe requires. This maybe fine for Mr. Milken, who can afford his own personal chef, but those of us in the real world need recipes that are not only healthy but quick.

5.0 out of 5 stars Incredibly designed to taste and appear like the real stuff!, September 29, 1998

This review is from: The Taste for Living Cookbook: Mike Milken's Favorite Recipes for Fighting Cancer (Hardcover)
For years I have tried to incorporate soy products into my diet. I tried various recipes in magazines and other cookbooks, but the meals were never quite right in the taste and appearance departments. The recipes in Taste for Living, however, are exactly what I was looking for. I was pleasantly shocked when I not only looked forward to eating the food in these recipes, but so did the children! With a long line of cancer and heart disease in my family, I am grateful for the recipes and tips in this book. I know these dietary change may save my life and the lives of my family members.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for those who are lactose intolerant, April 19, 2001
This review is from: The Taste for Living Cookbook: Mike Milken's Favorite Recipes for Fighting Cancer (Hardcover)
I purchased this book because it contained recipes like flan that didn't require any dairy products. It also provides some great tips for substituting out ingredients like cream and other milk products without sacrificing texture and taste.

At first, I was a bit concerned that most of the recipes in the book called for ingredients that I had never heard of, but even the small health-food section of my local grocery store had almost everything that I needed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Martha Stewart said the food was good, so we had to try it., January 23, 1999

We have tried many of the items and have found all of them very good. We were looking for low-fat, non-dairy foods and have been very surprised at how good all of the recipes have been. It takes some time to put them together, but it is well worth it. Some of our favorites are the Apple pie, Lasagna, veg. soup, ruben sandwich, pizza. So far we have not be disappointed in any of them. We will be buying copies of this book for our friends, so they can have the same experience we did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tasty and easy recipes, January 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: The Taste for Living Cookbook: Mike Milken's Favorite Recipes for Fighting Cancer (Hardcover)
I have 3 very young children and I don't have time to make extravagant dinners. So, I really enjoyed this cookbook because of the easy and healthy recipes. And it's food that my kids will eat even though it's GOOD for them. The "hot dogs" taste like real hot dogs! I saw the authors on "Martha Stewart Living" making all these delicious foods (quesadillas, deserts, etc.) so I decided to get the book and I'm glad I did!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Stuff, December 14, 2002
This review is from: The Taste for Living Cookbook: Mike Milken's Favorite Recipes for Fighting Cancer (Hardcover)
The book presents recipes attractively. I've tried a few and they were easier and better than I expected, given the somewhat unusual ingredients for familiar foods. The book goes astray, to some degree, in my opinion, because it works too hard at recreating unhealthy high fat foods with low-fat, high-soy, equivalents. Better to just present vegetarian recipees that don't try to seem like something else.

It is about time someone developed easy-to-follow recipes using ingredients that are good for us. I recommend this book for anyone who realizes their body is precious. Thank you Ms. Ginsberg and Mr. Milken for teaching me and my family how to use healthy ingredients to create delicious meals. We've never felt better!

3.0 out of 5 stars If I Were A Rich Man..., February 25, 2001

Steven H Simon (Lansdale, PA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Taste for Living Cookbook: Mike Milken's Favorite Recipes for Fighting Cancer (Hardcover)
The taste For Living Cookbook Mike Milken's Favorite Recipes For Fighting Cancer is a nicely photographed book. The recipes are basic health food fare. Cut down on fat, avoid meat, eat lots of veggies and soy. If I was a wealthy man I would have a professional chef move into my home and cook these complicated meals im my professional kitchen. I would also go to a medition center in Massachusetts "based on Ayurveda tradition" and I would "invite a doctor trained in both Western and Ayurveda medicine to move into...our house for a few months" I don't mean to be cynical but I have neither the time or money to follow this books recipes. I did not find this book very helpful .
