5.0 out of 5 stars Great little cookbook, April 9, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: A Taste for Love: A Romantic Cookbook for Two (Hardcover)
I just love this little book. I have many, many cookbooks to choose from and I've gone back to this one for several dishes already in the last two months since I've purchased. Although, I have not yet made a full menu as it recommends, taking pieces here and there has been just as wonderful. The dishes are gourmet in their presentation and ingredients, but not complicated to prepare. Perfect when cooking just for two on a nice quiet weekend.

I was widowed last year, so I picked up this book for the small portions and not the romance. I was pleasantly surprised at the thoroughness in the range of recipes. You can find just about anything you want here. I recommend this book to anyone who cooks for one or two. Helen Dargi

"What could be more romantic than the sweet tartness of raspberries and cream enveloping the velvet touch of pound cake." ~pg. 53

"A Taste for Love" is a beautifully designed cookbook. Each page is framed with art and pastel hearts. The recipes are organized according to themed menus. You can cook a dinner for an evening by the fire or wake up to delicious Windsor Toast with Maple Syrup. Some of the recipes include:

Baked Butternut Cream
Caramel Fondue
Broadway Cappuccino Custards
Chicken Salad Amandine
Roast Beef French Dip
Lemon Spritzers
Tapenade - an olive spread
Lemon Pudding - the one with the lemony sauce

For the most part, the recipes all have easy-to-follow instructions. The pages are also sprinkled with quotes, poetry and tips. All the recipes have headnotes that are fun to read.

The menus are destined to create memories. The "Hungry Lover's Dinner" would be perfect after a day of skiing or a walk in a snowy woods. Imagine coming home to the scent of an Oven-Baked Beef Stew. The recipe is easy to follow and can be left in the oven for four hours to cook by itself. The "Old Town Fantasy Menu" includes:

Baked Onion and Garlic Soup
Pork Tenderloin with Calvados Sauce
Baron Cameron Glazed Carrots
Sour Cream Rolls
Pears and Stilton

Throughout this cookbook there are little notes about where you can find the best foods. When discussing Pears, the authors recommend ordering them from Dean and Deluca. They also give suggestions for music and table decorations.

I would highly recommend this for couples! I love to cook and cook every night but there are so many leftovers. This book has perfectly scaled recipes for two. Plus they come in menus that combine main courses, side dishes, drinks, and desserts with romantic ideas and tips! I love this book for romantic dinners and special occasions.
