5.0 out of 5 stars Exellent presentation of Maltese food, history and customs
I thoroughly enjoyed Ms. Caruana's book which describes Maltese food so well you can taste it as you read the recipes! As a first generation Maltese-American, it was such a pleasure to hear someone else describe their family experiences which are so similar to many of us. The combination of Maltese history and culture put the icing on the cake.

2.0 out of 5 stars Hocky Pucks
We were less than satisfied with the Treacle Rings (Qaghaq tal-Ghasel). Despite following the directions to a tee, the filling was as hard as cement (my wooden spoon actually broke in it while stirring). The receipe should have called for a few quarts of water. The author may be world traveler and historian, but she didn't do her research on this particular recipe.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Cookbook I Have Ever Read- and Used!, March 2, 2000

This review is from: Taste of Malta (Hardcover)
I have tried some of Ms. Caruana's recipes. They came out fabulous. My dinner guests raved over the dishes, wondering where I came up with such exquisite food. It's great trying new recipes like the maltese cuisine. This author is definitely going places. I imagine her future works will be just as great and original.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a wonderful cooking (and tasting) experience, December 27, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Taste of Malta (Hardcover)
Claudia has done such a wonderful job of bringing together a collection of the best dishes that Maltese cooking offers.

Her major achievement has been in her idea of obtaining recipes from such a diverse group of people who have obviously enjoyed cooking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the best Maltese Cookbook!, December 21, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Taste of Malta (Hardcover)
Claudia has accomplished what few achieve in this field. A delightful combination of background/ history with well documented and presented recipes of some of the most unique meals. Claudia truly marshalls her considerable experience in world-wide travel and her exceptional research skills. This book is a tribute to a people of a lesser known corner of the world that has influenced western civilization in many ways. Did you know that the oldest remaining man-made structures on earth are on the Maltese Islands? (Smithsonian, Sept. 1997). Thanks Claudia!

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT, May 19, 2001
This review is from: Taste of Malta (Hardcover)
We have Claudia Caruana's TASTE OF MALTA and respect and admire the efforts she put to gather all the Maltese recipes that seem to exist and had existed in Malta for generations.

Maltese food is "neutral" to most nationalities - I know, I used to own a restaurant in Toronto selling Maltese food, and all types of people enjoyed our cuisine.

Claudia's book is a must in every kitchen of those people who are interested not only in good food, but also in healthy food.

Thanks, Claudia,

Alfred Grech

5.0 out of 5 stars Compare with the Original Maltese Cook Book, September 14, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Taste of Malta (Hardcover)
If you are going to review a Maltese cook bookthen you should compare it to the first Maltese cook book which has just been reissued by authors Anne & Helen Caruana-Galizia. Anne is my mother inlaw who lives in Australia now so I may have some bias but it is worth a look
