Many years ago, a bunch of refugees were traveling, when their ship crashed on Earth. The survivors formed a secret council known as the Underworld Council. The council is composed of incubus, sirens, werewolves, vampires, and valkyries. Most recently the council has allowed humans to have a seat in the council.

Lukas Sebastiani is an incubus. His father is the president of the Council. Lukas works for Sebastiani Security.

Scarlett Fontaine is the lead singer in a rock band. She is also a siren. Scarlett has been on the road for a long time and is ready for some rest and relaxation. Unfortunately, someone has other plans. Someone is attacking the people around Scarlett. It is up to Lukas to protect Scarlett, though who will protect him from Scarlett?

Taste Me is the first book in a brand new series called the Underbelly Chronicles. Not to be mistaken for paranormal but this book is definitely urban fantasy. It is darker, edgier, sensual and way hotter than paranormal. I thought Scarlett and Lukas were hot together, though the romance did not start until about middle way into the book. The story line surrounding the attacks was exciting. While I did enjoy this book and liked the various different characters in this story, I did wish that there was more happening. It did feel like the first book in a series with the build up to where the next book would be even better. Taste Me is a yummy morsel to what author, Tamara Hogan has to offer.

Format:Mass Market Paperback
A fast-paced, gritty, very very sexy read! Fabulous world-building (both the alien-races-crash-landing in Minnesota AND the pheromone-soaked rock-and-roll club scene!!), terrific writing, and one of the very best, most genuinely human villains I've read in a very long time. (The villain is genuinely scary, and yet I found myself caring about him, and wanting to protect him.) The central romance is passionate and emotionally satisfying...the final page of the book is truly sigh-worthy!! Plus the "play-list" of real songs chosen by the siren lead singer, Scarlett, is a treat--lots of things you'll want to download to your real iPod immediately! A terrific debut novel!

3.0 out of 5 stars RocK and Roll March 8, 2011
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This book was a mix of many things, paranormal romance mixed with suspense and urban fantasy. The love of music, and passion between the lead characters.

Scarlett is a siren and rock star. She is tired and she is trying to stay away from Lukas with whom she had one glorious fling. She can't forget him. But he is put to protect her and of course things will heat up cos these two really want each other. Lukas is the protective guy who thinks he hurt her in the past, and she, well she just want him, but she also upset over things that have happened. And I believed the passion.

I did get confused once though. No one know about these aliens from another planet, and at one time I thought people knew. But I guess they just have hospitals of their own. And if they arrived 1000 years ago then why are there myths about sirens long before that? What I would have liked is why all these aliens came to the planet and from where. I got interested in that and would want a bit more than was given.

The suspense is about the killer on the loose, but we know who it is. Cos we get the name on page 1, so that took some of the suspense away. It was more a wait to see whom he would go after next.

Still the book does have an interesting premise with all the Valkyrie and sirens and such. There is a lot of talk about music and that does give it another feel to it. I did want to listen to some music while reading.

Conclusion:
An ok book with bit of genremix in it. I would read more if that meant getting more info on why they are on earth.

4.0 out of 5 stars Taste Me March 1, 2011
Format:Mass Market Paperback
This book has it all--vampires, werewolves, succubi, sirens; you name it, it is in this book. Sometimes, though, it was almost a bit too much. But overall, this was a good read. There is a league of supernatural beings who run a sort of council and they have recently revealed their existence to very select humans. Lucas is the head of security for the council. When the head werewolf's daughter is attacked and nearly killed, tension increases and Lucas is going to be kept busy. If that is not enough to keep him entertained, singer Scarlett returns to town and the sexual tension between these two is beyond high. This book is filled with romance, action and paranormal twists and turns. The characters are well developed and interesting. This was my first time reading this author.

I liked Scarlett's cat the best. He was quite the feline personality. I enjoyed reading about more than one type of paranormal being at once. I skimmed most of the sex scenes; they are not my thing to read.

I was sent this book by Sourcebooks to review.

5.0 out of 5 stars Taste Me is a delicious debut novel March 7, 2011
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Siren singer Scarlet Fontaine is more than a rock superstar, she's a member of one of the most prominent families on the Underworld Council. When she returns home to Minneapolis after a punishing year of touring, she finds that more than her body is ravaged and exhausted--emotionally she's at the end of her strength. To make matters worse, the council meant to protect the interests of the city's non-human citizens, is suddenly beset by a series of vicious attacks from an unknown assailant. When the attacks escalate to include the murder of one of the council's own, everyone's safety--Scarlett's most of all--is in jeopardy.

Chosen to protect her is Lukas Sebastiani, an incubus with whom Scarlett had an unforgettable affair years before. She has never forgiven Lukas for walking away from her, but she's also never stopped loving him. As the danger grows around Scarlett and her band, Lukas can't hide the fact that he feels his own love and passion for Scarlett.

While the hunt for the killer goes into high gear, Lukas is determined to keep Scarlett safe until she's out of danger, even if it means having her move in with him or spiriting her away to the Sebastiani's secluded north woods cabin where her proximity tortures him with desire. He doesn't believe for a moment he's worthy of keeping her forever, but despite their resolve, Scarlett and Lukas's love grows more passionate, and Scarlett's mind and body begin to heal under Lukas's care.

But despite their growing hope for a future together and Lukas's vows of protection, the killer still manages to find Scarlett. Will Lukas reach her in time to save her? Or are his fears of being unworthy end up being real?
