Disappointed,
This review is from: Taste and See Faith: Recipes for the Soul (Paperback)
I saw a write-up on this book that described it as a liturgically based cookbook with appropriate recipes for seasons described. While the liturgical information was interesting, the recipes are not. I don't think there are more than one or two I would even consider trying. The book is a slim volume at best, and very overpriced at $12.99. Don't bother.

Linking Family Meals and Living the Faith,
By Lisa M. Hendey "Mom, Blogger, Podcaster, Author" (Fresno, CA United States) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Taste and See Faith: Recipes for the Soul (Paperback)
Taste and See Faith is the first book by Marie Wilson, a wife, mother and catechist for over twenty years. This is more than a mere cookbook - Marie divides the book into sections that relate to the liturgical calendar of the Catholic Church. For each section, there is introductory information which informs the reader about that "season". The recipes which follow have been specially chosen to correlate to the calendar. Each recipe page also features a relevant scripture passage. At the end of each season section, Marie includes a personal prayer she has written personally. The recipes included vary from family traditions such as "Galumpkis" to "Forty Day Trail Mix" and cover everything from salads to main courses to desserts. These are not complicated recipes, but rather simple family meals that even the most novice cook should have no problem preparing. The only limitation I see to this book is the fact that no nutritional data is included. As someone who is constantly seeking healthy fare for my family, I always like to see this type of content included in cookbooks. That being said, Taste and See Faith would be a wonderful addition to any Catholic family kitchen. For those looking to truly live out faith on a day to day basis, this book is a real treat! |
