"A gripping thriller wrapped inside the world of celebrities and terrorism... A must read" - Suspense Magazine

American movie star Scarlett Cox and her husband, hotel tycoon Salvador Brazza, head to Africa to get away and resuscitate their ailing marriage. When robbed of their money and passports, they seek help from the U.S. Embassy in Dar es Salaam on the very day Al Qaeda chooses to bomb it. In an eyeblink they are taken hostage and whisked across the border deep into the Congo, one of the last truly wild places left on earth.

Battling terrorists, deadly wildlife, and cannibalistic rebels, Scarlett and Sal must find a way to survive in a violent, primeval world. And the only person who may be able to save them is the assassin sent to kill them.

Interview with the Author

Q - So, who are your favorite authors and why?

A – I grew up reading all the big names in horror like Stephen King and Dean Koontz and James Herbert and Clive Barker. I’ve also always enjoyed Bentley Little and Richard Laymon. Recently I'm getting into some new names like Bobby Adair and Joe Hill and Blake Crouch.

Why do I like them? The answer to that is pretty simple. They write fantastic horror stories that check all the boxes: realistic characters, real chills, lurking dread, danger, lightning-fast pacing, plots full of twists and turns. And they also experiment with other genres, mixing horror with sci fi, psychological suspense, crime thrillers, and so forth.

Q - What other books do you have available?

A – I started out writing in the suspense genre with White Lies. Then I moved on to action/adventure with The Taste of Fear. However, now I am firmly in the horror game. They are as follows in order of publication:

- White Lies
- The Taste of Fear
- Suicide Forest
- Black Canyon
- The Catacombs
- Helltown (coming soon)

Q - So, why should readers give these books a try?

A - Because they are fast and fun and include quite a few surprises and scares (and the occasional touch of humor). They have hit the top ten bestsellers list in Kindle’s Suspense/Thriller/Horror categories, and they have been been featured in Amazon's Thrillers 100 Must Reads list.

Let me start by saying that The Taste Of Fear is completely out of my normal review genre. I usually tend to read & review erotic paranormal romances, so I wasn't entirely sure how much I was going to like this book but I grew up reading Stephen King, Dean Koontz & Clive Barker, so I was more than willing to give this a try... I will now be the first to admit that Jeremy Bates easily belongs on the list of my beloved horror, thriller & drama authors.. The Taste Of Fear started out with a glimpse into the world of an assassin and kept my attention until the very end. I literally could NOT put this book down.
Mr. Bates is incredibly detailed & allows the reader to easily visualize the actual world as he sees it thru his characters eyes. I went thru so many emotions reading this novel. Anger, disgust, hatred, laughter, love, suspicion and then outright fear... It shocked me & kept me enthralled to the last page.
He brought all of his characters into harsh, cold, real life, describing the true problems many people face with affairs, emotions, business, money & co-workers... As Scarlett & Salvador decide to try one last time to save their marriage, real life terror, in the form of a bombing & kidnapping invades their worlds..Not to mention, an assassin nipping at their heels.. One moment, I despised Scarlett & Sal and the next moment, I was wishing the best for them, feeling their hope, their love for each other and finally their fear... I kept imagining a happy ending, as all my books normally have... I was utterly shocked by the ending in this one.. And yet, I found it entirely suiting and incredibly satisfying..

5.0 out of 5 stars The Taste of Fear October 18, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I was so fortunate to receive a free download of "The Taste of Fear" by Jeremy Bates to read on my Kindle.I was so impressed when I read his previous novel,"White Lies",that I jumped at the chance.I was not disappointed. This was an amazing novel by such a skillful author. What a rollercoaster of a ride.

American actress Scarlett Cox and husband billionaire Sal Brazza, had taken a one month separation after discovering her husband's affair. But on the eve of Scarlett's 30th birthday party, she would see him again. But the party was not meant to be. She was out speeding in her Vantage sports car and was in a car accident that left her unconscious in the hospital.

Sal was in the hotel business, operating out of Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and was in the process of opening up another hotel, the Prince Hotel. But one month ago, there was a fire at the Prince Hotel, and the police had reassessed their original conclusion of faulty wiring to arson.Sal had been the only one person staying in the hotel at the time, the fire had been directly below his room.Sal had been rescued by his security chief.Had someone wanted to kill Sal...but why?

Sal decides to take Scarlett to Africa, for an adventure...and the book takes off.The novel moves at a fast pace, involving terrorist attacks on the American Embassy, hostages, and Al Qaeda connections.

This book is well written, and if you enjoy reading mystery-suspense-thrillers, don't miss out on this book. A definate 5 Star rating.

3.0 out of 5 stars Should be Five Stars January 4, 2013
By robbie
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This book would have received five stars from me except for the insulting use of Aussie slang, and the name Thunder. Why do authors do this, give their characters pathetic names. I am an Aussie and there is no way in Hell a educated man (lawyer at that) would call a woman "An alright Sheila"......pleasssssssseeee. Aside from that this book is good. Kept me interested (although annoyed). Thunder !!!!!!!!! Ssshh

5.0 out of 5 stars Exhilarating - never ending thrill ride. December 17, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The further you read the novel the more overflowing with danger. Just when you think nothing worse can happen - it does. The pages are packed with suspense. The author brings the reader into an authentic world, writing powerful scenes with great action and vivid surroundings. A true painting of the various terrains and societies, brought forth in lurid descriptions as the characters travel from place to place under duress. The story delivers protagonists who become stronger and better people as they hang on for survival. The title is very appropriate, more appreciated once the book is finished and the reader can look back on the motives and the personality traits of the characters. Truly captivating and I recommend this story to everyone who enjoys a true thriller.

3.0 out of 5 stars 3star June 26, 2014

Wow! Action packed--you won't get bored--it's just too unbelievable. Even with broken ribs and flesh stripped from both legs, one of the characters is still able to fight a black panther with a machete.

5.0 out of 5 stars Heart-pounding suspense January 2, 2013
By saniko
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This thriller was a little out of my comfort zone, but I couldn't stop reading it. Kudos to Jeremy Bates who painted such a realistic and gripping tale in "The Taste of Fear" that I had to stop from time to time to catch my breath! Detailed and well-written scenes reveal the dark side of human nature and the even darker side of what lurks in the forests of Africa. Our senses are on alert as the plot unfolds and the pace quickens, and we truly "taste" the fear and horror the characters experience. A must-read for fans of suspense thrillers!

Good story. I enjoyed the African locations. The author provided adequate descriptions for each of the many scenes without going into so much detail that it slowed the action. Read more

So much action! It is "out of the frying pan and into the fire" over and over, but our all seems plausible. An interesting and suspenseful story. Well written and worth reading!
