This review is from: A Taste of Tuscany: Classic Recipes from the Heart of Italy (Hardcover)
This Taste of Tuscany by Leslie Forbes is a tour through beautiful Tuscany, including maps, dexcriptions of towns, buildings, flowers, shops, and, oh yes, the recipes. This would be a delightful book just to read, but the recipes from each town are what the book is about. Relax, stroll through the magical towns, stop at a quaint cafe. The owner takes your order, brings the dish, then appears a few minutes later to ask how you like it. The difference with this trip is that you get the recipe as well. I've tried several of the recipes, finding them to be successful. The recipes are not like the ones we expect from a cookbook packed with several recipes for, say, tomato sauce. The recipe is the one the author saw someone make. The measurements are accurate, but any competent cook could change them slightly if a different effect would be more pleasing. A few of the terms are a bit confusing to me, For example, I'm not sure if "peeled almonds" means shelled or blanched. But, no matter, the recipe worked with shelled, unblanched almonds and would probably work with blanched almonds also. No worries.

I bought this book because I already own Leslie Forbes's Taste of Provence, a place I haven't yet visited, except through books and films.
