Product Description

Fresh ginger has a characteristic, bitingly pungent, slightly sweetish and aromatic flavor, which is more intense than is the case with dried ginger. Cooking with Fresh Ginger Add tangy freshness, light spiciness, and mellow sweetness to your everyday dishes. Ginger isn't just for Asian cooking Fresh ginger's tangy freshness, light spiciness, warmth, and mellow sweetness complement a range of dishes, from sweet savory. It can be a dominant flavoring, or it can work in conjunction with other flavors. Beyond the traditional Asian applications like stir-fries, and dipping sauces, ginger is equally at home with such an everyday ingredient. And ginger has a natural affinity to meats, poultry, and fish. Ginger as a medical herb, ginger has been cultivated for thousand of years in China and India. The high content of potassium in ginger will protects the body against bone fragility, paralysis, sterility, muscle weakness, mental apathy and confusion, kidney damage and damage to the heart. Chinese medical texts from the fourth century B.C. suggest that ginger is effective in treating nausea, diarrhea, stomachaches, cholera, toothaches, bleeding, and rheumatism. Ginger was later used by Chinese herbalists to treat a variety of respiratory conditions, including coughs and the early stages of colds. Fresh ginger is wonderful in drinks, baked goods and other dishes. The following recipes will give you an idea of how versatile it is.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good ginger (young, tender) January 3, 2012
Ginger is great, what is to say about it? You can eat it in a million ways, including raw -- just wash it with a potato brush and you don't even need to peel it, especially if it's young like here (mature ginger tends to be rather fibrous; young is much less so). But watch the prices: ginger is available at Wegman's for four sixty-nine a pound, no shippiing involved. And in my local Indian store they sell young ginger for between two and four bucks a pound. One has to marvel at how these little mom-and-pop stores manage to offer a better assortment of better quality produce at a fraction of the cost of similar stuff in large stores, including online. These days when I shop, I start my tour with the local Indian, Russian, and Asian stores/markets. Only then do I go to my Superfresh/Acme/etc. -- if at all. And I only buy online after making sure the price is good and stable (prices jump around a lot and can double overnight). Bottomline: this ginger here is very good, and it's come down quite a bit lately, but at my local Indian store is still cheaper (and just as good).

This ginger arrived in small pieces, skin discolored, and not really all that fresh, soft spots. It arrived in a thin paper envelope instead of a small box, so it got beat up in delivery. It's 'OK' for use, but expected better.

Order placed on the 3rd, arrived on the 22nd. I got 11 oz, not 14.

This seller is communicative and friendly, but should work on having product on hand and ready to ship out -- most people expect and are willing to pay priority mail prices for produce... this product could have shipped in a small flat rate box for not much more than the first class postage charged.

I gave excellent seller feedback (which has mysteriously disappeared) even before the product arrived based on the friendly communication. I may give them another chance if I can't find another source, but next time I would expect fast shipping, fresh product and the amount advertised.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fresh Ginger Root November 3, 2011

It IS fresh! It makes great Ginger Tea. Just peel off the skin, chop well, simmer on low boil for 15-30 minutes and you've got a great beverage.
We make it by the gallon and refrigerate it until needed - Then, if we want hot tea, we pour a cup, put in microwave for 3-5 minutes, and then add a little honey.
Good AND Good For You!
