Book Description

Humor writers Noel Boivin and Chris Lombardo follow up their definitive compendium of drunken feats, The Man Who Scared a Shark to Death (Penguin, 2007), with Tastes Like Human: The Shark Guys' Book of Bitingly Funny Lists.

Here the authors, who one reviewer of their first book called "fast and funny with the facts, without the morality", present a completely new and unapologetically irreverent take on the list book genre.

Tastes Like Human answers questions people didn't even know they wanted answers to like: Who are the Top Horniest Cult Leaders of All Time? What are the Top 10 Reasons Why You Should Never Return Things? Which incidents qualify as the Top Acts of Karaoke-Related Violence?

All of that and much more, including etiquette tips on matters as diverse as how to use an ATM machine without seeming like a complete prick, a guide to conduct when meeting Queen Elizabeth, and fighting suggestions the next time your mouth makes an online payment for which there are insufficient funds in your credit account (ass, in keeping with the analogy) to pay for.

Chris and Noel, AKA, "The Shark Guys" are the creators of the popular humor site TheSharkGuys. Links from their site have appeared on dozens of popular websites including Mental Floss, Sports Illustrated, Cracked, IMDb, and FARK.

Reviews of their first book:

"[An] entertaining compendium of tales of drunken exploits -- all documented truths, but reading somewhat like urban myths." --The Globe and Mail

"'... A brilliant tome dedicated to some of the best true stories of drunken debauchery ever." --KISW Seattle Online

"Lifelong sobriety certainly isn't a bad thing, but being a prude is, and it may prevent you from enjoying The Man Who Scared a Shark to Death and Other Tales of Drunken Debauchery." --The Calgary Herald

"... [A] hilarious (and at times painfully familiar) new book.", --Scene Magazine

Editorial Reviews

Review

"What sets this book apart from other list books or "Ripley's Believe It Or Not"-esque compilations is the writing. Boivin and Lombardo team up to create lists that are both hilarious and smart."
Baltimore Reads

"Funny twists to strange occurrences, people and moments in history."
The Examiner

"...able to seamlessly navigate between high brow and lowbrow humour...A salad of the blasphemous and profane, with a dash of cynicism and ironic self defamation make for a comic light read."
The Lance

"Brilliant with their eye for sorting these bizarre tales with their eccentric narration."
Eastern Echo

"Often irreverent and outrageous, but rarely truly offensive and always funny."
The Felix

"Oddly interesting, insanely amusing."

This hysterically funny collaboration of sick and twisted reality is filled with shockingly bizarre accounts of exploding bats and rats, human/goat fornication, and animal kingdom sickness that is so bizarre there are only two choices. Either close the book and thank heaven that Fluffy is safely sleeping on the couch, or laugh your (name your own body part) off and discover the science behind exploding toads. I don't mean to be judgmental, but just exactly why are these two guys so interested in exploding animals? The best way to find the answer to that mystery is to read. Fear not. Just when you think you can't take another moment of strange acts with animals, they move on to the human variety.

5.0 out of 5 stars "HILARIOUS, ENTERTAINING, ENJOYABLE!" September 9, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
The brilliant comic team known as 'The Shark Guys' who created "The Man Who Scared A Shark To Death and Other True Tales Of Drunken Debauchery" now deliver an hysterically funny "TASTES LIKE HUMAN: The Shark Guys' Book Of Bitingly Funny Lists." This comic Masterpiece is one of the funniest books I've read, and not only is it delightful, but also therapeutic. We have all heard that 'laughter is your best medicine.' As a CCRN in the healthcare profession for 30 years, I wish I had this book back then, because I would have given each of my patients a copy. You would be surprised how mentally refreshed they would feel, just to take their minds off of any dark cloud that followed their path. This list book is indeed 'the life of the party!' What a great idea to carry it along at the beach, read it after a bad day at work, or share it at a get-together with friends. I found this book as funny as Eddie Murphy's stand up comedy on Saturday Night Live, as funny as Robin Williams in 'The Birdcage' and I laughed with this book as much as I did when viewing 'Tyler Perry's Madea's Witness Protection.' In addition, in this second collaboration created by Christopher Lombardo and Noel Boivin, I find these guys as much of a clever, comic team as I do Martin Lawrence and Tim Robbins in "Nothing To Lose." The Shark guys are not just funny, they are indeed extremely funny, and that makes a huge difference! This incredible book includes:The Top 8 Great Achievements in sitting; The Top 10 Horniest Cult Leaders Of All Time; 7 Campaign Ideas For PETA; The Top 8 Criminal Prank Calls; Top 6 Karaoke-inspired Acts Of Violence; and much more. I laughed out loud to:' 5 Ways To Spruce Up Your Final Resting Place.' One way is the use of Electrified Tombstones to ward off urinators. You have got to read: 'The Top 8 Criminal Prank Calls, Serial Killers matched up with Zodiac Signs, and Weird Virgin Mary Sightings.' One of my favorites is: 'The True Definition Of Writer's Block and Surgeon's Block.' I'm still laughing at 'The Qualifications To Be A Librarian.' Find out how Donkeys are leading with their asses, or why Sharks are better than Cats. Did you know that you can charge people admission if you own 100 Sharks, but if you own 100 Cats, people call the cops? The essay-style of comedy by these Talented authors is the Best humor I've seen in years, and I thank these authors for so much enjoyment and fun. Highly Recommended to all comedy lovers and anyone who needs a good laugh, because this type of humor is exactly what the world needs Now!

What can I say that isn't said above? Most importantly I can say - I really did want to know which serial killer shared my zodiac sign (pisces). It turns out that I do care about ATM etiquette. But I probably could have lived my life quite happily without having read about the top 10 exploding animals, though. After reading Tastes Like Human The Shark Guys' Book of Bitingly Funny Lists by Noel Boivin and Chris Lombardo, I discovered that I cared about many things I hadn't really given much thought to in the past, and I learned some other things along the way that I won't mind forgetting in the near future (back to the exploding animals here).
Whether you want to learn about people who shouldn't win the lottery or famous last words that could use a do-over, this is the book for you. Join the Shark Guys as they are alternately cheeky, rude, way too informative and educational. You will definitely find something in this funny book of lists that you didn't know that you cared about but come away from it glad that you know it now. I thank the authors for a review copy and I give the book 4 stars.
