Tasting Love-liness!,

This review is from: Tasting Loneliness for the First Time (Audio CD)
I bought this CD in Hong Kong and I love it. Huang Hong-ying has a hauntingly beautiful voice and the songs are wonderful. This is an album of popular Chinese songs, but they could as easily be American standards. The tonality is western, and Hong-Ying's style is not at all like the wailing of traditional Chinese opera. My favorite cut, Barcarole, has a lovely translation (English lyrics included in the CD)and a gorgeous melody. I highly recommend this album. Often I take out Eva Cassidy and put in Huang. They both know how to evoke emotion.

This is a beautiful album. Huang Hong Ying has crystal clear voice and sings flawlessly. This was her debut. The producer has taken great pains to get the sound exactly right, even insisting on finding the best piano in Shanghai, not to mention Liu Xing on zhongruan. This is a classic in Southern China and rightly so.
