It tastes ok, a bit too mushy (can't make out the eggplant). Also beware of the high saturated fat (14-15%).

Tasty Bite Punjab Eggplant is delicious and spicy. Try adding a bit of plain yogurt. Serve with rice or bread (nan or pita work well) and you have a brilliant meal that costs only a few dollars. This is true of all of the Tasty Bite Indian Entrees. I wish the Tasty Bite Thai Meals came as Entrees (i.e. without the rice or noodles) so I could streach them out into a big meal by adding my own rice or noodles.
Tasty Bite Entrees are really easy to keep on hand, since they don't have to be refrigerated. Buying in bulk works well for these.

5.0 out of 5 stars Super tasty, but kind of a small meal, August 22, 2006

I ordered several Tasty Bite items and they were all great, and very convenient to take to work since they do not need refridgeration. The eggplant in particular was delicious, just a hint of spice. However, it does not come with rice, which helps make it a more filling meal.

What can I say, I just love this product. Ideally for ME I would like it to be a little bit more tomato-ey and a tad less spicy, but when I taste it I remind myself that it is truly more authentic in its current state and I can taste the eggplant more despite the spiciness as I've gotten used to it. Sometimes I just eat it as is without heating it up, which also lessens the spiciness level. But it is SO good, I just ordered one of the vegetables packets and I doubt it can be as great as this one but it's worth a try. It has a comforting smooshy testure to it, with bits of well-cooked onions intertwined in it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best Tasty Bite meal., May 5, 2007

This is the best of the Tasty Bite Indian retort-packaged dishes. It is moderately spicy and has a wonderful flavor of eggplant. It is a bit oily, like some Indian foods can be at times. The texture is sort of creamy/lumpy because of the eggplant seeds.

It is wonderful with a little microwaved frozen broccoli added to bulk up the meal, along with brown rice and some frozen naan. Yum!

This same item is sold camouflaged at Trader Joe's.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tasty AND convenient bites!, September 21, 2008

I've enjoyed trying various food items from Amazon lately, and this is hands down my favorite. The little pouches are sooo convienent; the product stays fresh and tastey until you want to use it, and it is just the right size to prepare a dish for two, or clips it shut (I use a clothes pin, or a paper clip) to eat later.

The Punjab Eggplant is a bit spicey, especially if you are eating it by itself. I use it as a side dish, rather than an entree, or I pour it over brown rice or the like. For example, when I got my first shipment of foods from Amazon, we were in a hurry to get out, and we didn't have time to make a meal. Looking through my stuff, I pulled out the Punjab egglant, a jar of whole wheat couscous, and a tin of sardines. I heated up the egglant during the five minutes it takes to prepare couscous, put the cousous on two plates, added a couple of sardines for protein, and viola, a super quick tastey and nutricious meal!

Have ordered a variety of these Indian meals and love them all. Fast and easy to prepare and the
taste is just great. Was very surprised at how good they were when I started using them. Really
solved my problem of loving Indian food but no take out nearby and my husband hates eating out.

I served this with snack crackers as a dip to two different groups and received unanimous praise for its spicy deliciousness. Works great as either hot or cold dip. Five stars as a dip.

As a main or side dish, I agree with another reviewer that the eggplant taste is obscured. However, it still makes for a tasty meal. Four stars.

Vegan. All natural. Convenient foil package. Heat & serve. Great on toast, with tortillas, pitas, or Indian bread, or with rice. I like to add small cubes of organic tofu for extra protein. Great flavor. Those who like Indian eggplant will be surprised and pleased. This review is out there for those for whom this makes a difference. See all of my reviews for more great choices.
