Incredible, Unique, Ethereal Doom Metal - Essential and worth every penny!,
By Explorator (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tatterdemalion Express (Audio CD)
This is a True musical gem! Mar de Grises has created an incredibly oppressive sonic tapestry of ancient sadness here! Their style is slow funereal doom with distant eerie and exhausted death metal vocals straining to be heard through a bleak, yet hauntingly beautiful sonicscape. It's never boring, with multiple layers of extended harmonies to hone in on, and the fleeting moments of drama are the aural equivalent of the universe ripping wide open! Seriously, anybody interested in exploring the ever expanding boundaries of modern doom metal will really treasure this one.

Great progressive doom metal album,

Chilean band Mar de Grises (Sea of Greys) play Progressive Doom Metal, but with a wide range of influences, like Rock and classical music, but basically all their songs have a very solid Doom/Death Metal structure. This debut album contains seven lengthy songs that show us the broad variety of musical tastes that these guys possess.
This is a must have for any doom metal fan, and gothic and prog metal fans should give it a try too. I just can't wait for the sophomore album from this guys. 5 stars. |
