Good for making things for your home . . .,
This review is from: Tatting Doilies and Edgings (Dover Knitting, Crochet, Tatting, Lace) (Paperback)
this book includes some very pretty doilies (I tatted Whip Cream Frill in white and it was beautiful) along with other doily-like patterns that are meant for use around the house. It's obvious from some of the designs that they're from another time period (1920s-1940s); there's not much call for 'luncheon sets' or chair antimacassars anymore, but those older patterns can be adapted into placemats or doilies. No visual patterns, and all the designs are written in short form, but none of the patterns are incredibly difficult. The edging patterns are nice but nothing out of the ordinary.

This book has a wide variety of patterns which are not simply "reruns" of the same old designs. It is well worth to buy, but not spectacular.

This book has a variety of wonderful doily and edging patterns! Many different types of doilies are included: Round, oval, square, etc. A nice pattern resource. It seems to be reprints of the best patterns from old tatting brochures first published probably 60 years ago. Nice to have a resource for those, many of them would likely be hard to find today. Really like this book!!!

I'm fairly new to the craft of tatting, but as with any craft a reliable instructional book can take you far. Many beginners to crafts in general may be daunted by the written patterns, however, if you know how to read crochet or knitting patterns, you will find this easier to understand than those without that experience. Each Dover book has a quick how to in the beginning or at the end, and these instructions are clear and precise with pictures.

My wife enjoyed the book greatly. She has made several of the patterns from the book.

This is a collection of reprinted patterns from the 20's to 40's, focusing mostly on doilies, table settings, and armchair doilies. It does have some edgings and hankerchief patterns, but doesn't have the patterns for purses, camisoles, baby caps and odd accessories you see in a lot of reprints from the 20's & 30's. There are a few patterns that will lie flat a lot easier if worked with 2 shuttles instead of a ball & shuttle, but it's not required on most. I tatted a few of the doilies and they turned out nicely. If you like the 'traditional' tatting patterns and styles, this is a very nice book.
