Excellant book with many lovely and unique heart patterns!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Tatting Hearts (Dover Knitting, Crochet, Tatting, Lace) (Paperback)
This book has many very beautiful heart motifs which are graded from 'novice' to 'expert' skill levels. There are also instructions for Tatting Basics, Techniques, and even Split-ring Tatting. I would highly recommend this book for your tatting library.

Tatting Hearts is a Wonderful Book of Patterns,

I have to strongly disagree with "NickName12345's" review about this book. I was inspired to learn to tat 3 years ago after seeing a copy of Teri Dusenbury's "Tatting Hearts" book. I immediately bought the book and within two months had taught myself to tat (including the split ring technique which is used in this book). These heart designs are beautiful and original!! I was so thrilled that in just a short time I was able to give my husband a gorgeous tatted heart for Valentine's Day, which he still carries in his wallet. I give this book and the author's fabulous designs my highest rating. I get much relaxation working challenging patterns and learning new techniques, but again, that all depends on the individual and if one hobby makes one anxious, it may not be the one for them. Excellent for Valentine's Day, other holidays . . .,
This review is from: Tatting Hearts (Dover Knitting, Crochet, Tatting, Lace) (Paperback)
the twelve heart designs in this book are all attractive, but they do involve split rings. If you haven't learned how to do split rings yet, then you'll want to master them before picking up this book. Most of the patterns are rather involved, but there are visual diagrams given to help you along the way. My favorite is the Heart Frame, great for framing a photo of a loved one or pet. I would have liked to see a few smaller, simpler patterns along with the complicated ones, but if you're looking for hearts, this is the book to buy.

While the patterns in this book are a bit advanced for a beginner, it's still a great reference book to use as you work on simpler patterns from other sources. Her "directional tatting" technique is wonderful and I suspect after I finish making a few more projects (I'm working on my first now, which was giving me problems until I got her book and read her stitch instructions) I will be able to complete her more complex patterns. I suggest buying it even if you're a beginner, learn from her instructions, complete easier patterns from other sources and then try hers.

Some lovely heart patterns,

This book contains some very pretty heart designs. Many of the patterns are advanced and are considered difficult by any standards. Ms Dusenbury's pattern writing style is also not always clear, consisting of a combination of diagrams and text. However the photographs are very clear and if you are used to working with diagrammatical patterns it should not be too difficult to work out which part of the pattern refers to what.It is also important to know that the patterns are written so that the pieces can be worked in front side/back side tatting so you may need to adjust to that terminology if you are working one of the hearts. Other than that it is a beautiful book and contains some lovely patterns.

Refreshing change for tatters,
This review is from: Tatting Hearts (Dover Knitting, Crochet, Tatting, Lace) (Paperback)
I bought this book as a surprise for my husband who is always looking for new patterns. From the time the mailman rang the bell with the book until he started working the three-daisy heart was about 30 minutes-only because he had to hunt for his tatting needles. It had been so long since he used anything other than a shuttle that he was pleased with the pattern and clear directions, the speed with which it worked on needles and the great outcome. No one will ever see it though because it was slipped into his best friend's casket the next morning. Great purchase.

hmmmm,
This review is from: Tatting Hearts (Dover Knitting, Crochet, Tatting, Lace) (Paperback)
I'm not too sure about this book. It seemed like a lot of work to make some not very impressive designs. I like to tat to relax, and this book got me anxious. I think this book would be great for someone who wants to learn and/or make use of split rings. I was looking for some nice heart shapes, but I wasn't satisfied with this book.

Even though I've only completed a couple of the patterns, this book has helped me understand how to create heart patterns of my own so I can learn how to create my own patterns. It has a wide variety of techniques and difficulty levels. One of the first books in my tatting library and a must-have reference.
