good lick on tattoo?,

This review is from: Tattoo Art & Design (Paperback)
I saw this book at an Urban Outfitters. It features tons of fake tattoos that are made by what I would call "pop surrealists." If you read juxtapoz you will love the tattoos that are found in here. Yes, some of them are abstract, but if you have the eye for it you can tell that it took time and thought to make these.I loved it. I would even consider getting some of them tattooed on me forever.

Tattoo Art and Design,
By Kristina Kazakoff (Buffalo, New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tattoo Art & Design (Paperback)
This book is great. Visually it's fun and intriguing. I am a lover of tattoo art and design, so this makes for an awesome coffee table book. Guests at my house enjoy leafing through it and it adds art interest to my family room.I give this book three stars because I was expecting more from it. I thought it would be something that explored design theories based on traditional tattooing. I'm not totally sold that this was worth the money. I suggest checking this book out in person at a book store before committing to the price. Overall, I like this book.

Artsy fake tattoos,
By Deborah Merritt (Phoenix, AZ) - See all my reviews

These designs are more of the modern art variety- not very tattoo friendly, actually. All of the people in the pictures only have temporary tattoos. I was definitely disappointed in this book.

I was really disappointed in this book. The cover was so promising! However, it's more of a graphic design book than tattoo art. All of the tattoos are temporary and after seeing some of the designs you see why.

Not a Tattoo Design Book,

I saw this book and flipped through it at a store - but I should have read more carefully. The designs are NOT tattoos or even meant to be tattoos. Very few of the designers have tattoos and most actually say they would NOT want their designs to become tattoos. It's very clear that these people know little to nothing about tattooing. It seems like the idea of the book (to have modern designers create tattoo designs to challenge and fuse with traditional designs) was conceived before they actually met, interviewed and got people to create something for the book. I was super disappointed both by the fact that none of the images in the book were of real tattoos (they were fake) and that few of the artists would actually want the images to be tattoos. Wasn't that the point of the book? If you are interested in tattoo design, buy another book.

This is a really good publication if you are into design, but has not much to do with tattoos. In fact, most of the artists that published their work do not even have tattoos. I would not pay full price for it. You can get it used, like I did, at a very good price.

This didn't really have tattoo designs. It showcased artists that have graphic designs and tried to transfer them into tattoos but most of them didn't look very good when transferred on skin and ended up looking strange. This book isn't very helpful as far as tattoo design goes. There were also interviews of all the artists but most of them don't even want tattoos and aren't involved in that scene. All in all this was a waste of money since it's not what it seems to be.

Great "alternative" ideas,

IF you are looking for traditional tattoo ideas do not buy this book. On the other hand if you are into design and appreciate a fresh approach to an ancient form of art, then -by all means, get this book. I really enjoyed most of the ideas presented here. Actually 2 have served as inspiration for future tattoos.

Fabulous Ideas!,

This book makes a break from traditional tattoo designs, true enough. It is a mind altering and opening experience. Read in tandem with other tattoo books and art and design books, this beautiful, glossy, thing that weighs about 8 pounds(!) could be a real eye opener for someone looking for something a bit different. Super tasty!
