4.0 out of 5 stars Good Source, Great Descriptions
This is definitely a great beginner sourcebook for not only tattoo designs, but this book organizes the tats by type and gives a brief description and origin of each tattoo from tribal to Celtic and even modern day kinds, for instance. Tattoo examples are great, clear and well printed and easily copied. A good read for some ideas for those getting their first tattoo.

1.0 out of 5 stars turrible.
this book is pretty awful - - we had it at a shop i used to work in, and it usually didn't take clients more than a minute of looking at it before they put it away.
it's just kind of boring, nothing in it i could see wanting to tattoo on myself, lacking in inspiration, like a really plain, uninventive, blank coloring book.
pay the money for a book of flash - -...

pay the money for a book of flash - - you really can't go wrong seeking out original, beautiful flash by established artists. amazon actually has a lot to offer in that department, more than they used to. as far as what amazon can sell you, the sailor jerry flash books volumes one and two, and Don Ed Hardys tattoo flash book remain the gold standard.
get those instead.

it gets 2 because there were a lot of pages and they were well organized. but all and all lame stuff that you can usually see on any wall of a tattoo shop. it would make a pretty cool coloring book for kids....

1.0 out of 5 stars MEGA SUCKS!!!!, December 8, 2011

I own the 2nd Sourcebook (the more expensive one - which is definitely the one you should buy instead of this crap). I didn't believe the reviews on this one, i thought there had to be something worth it in here... there really isn't. The tribal in this book is pathetic. Beware if you want it for tribal reasons, cuz you will not see the gothic tribal you're probaly used to seeing in the magazines. You won't find any of that here.. The tribal in here is Native American Tribal - all of it - all native amer. tribal, so if you're into that, then you'll like this book. If not, don't buy it. There's a celtic section as well, but you could find the designs in this book on the internet or in the 2nd Sourcebook, and way better designs at that too. there's not alot of categories in this book unlike the 2nd one. This 1st edition one has native amer. tribal, celtic, mostly floral too - and like i said, the images in here are pretty basic and also small. none are large or medium size like what you find in the 2nd Sourcebook. You could find way better images online.

Don't bother with this book. I'm sorry i bought it and didn't choose to believe the reviews. If i was you, go buy the 2nd Sourcebook - it's got way more categories, huge tattoos - colored and black and gray ones, tons to choose from in the 2nd book, def worth the money. don't bother w/ the 1st sourcebook. it sucks.

This is not at all what I had expected. From the cover you would assume that all the drawings inside will be really good but once you open it up it's a real disappointment. To me all of it looks like computer clip-art compiled into a book and sold off as a tattoo design book. Don't get this.
