5.0 out of 5 stars Hard Core Country..., August 16, 2000
By
This review is from: Tattoos & Scars (Audio CD)
"Tattoos & Scars" is one of the most genuine CD's I've heard in awhile. Every song on this album is a song that most people can relate to, and something that the artists have lived. I have seen Montgomery Gentry in concert twice now, once with Brooks & Dunn, and the second time with Lynyrd Skynyrd in Nashville, and its amazing how well their music can complement not only true country, but Southern Rock like Skynyrd. If you are a fan of Charlie Daniels, Skynyrd, or any artist along those lines, you are sure to like this artist, and especially this CD.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tattoos and Scars best country album in quite some time, July 11, 2001

I probably should have written this review a long time ago, This album is GREAT, if you love kick you in the ...** country then this is the album to get, no filler tunes here. You get what you pay for. More albums should be like this. Brings back the feel of the 70's outlaws "Waylon, Johnny, Willie, and Kris" among others. Want good music then pick this up....NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars An Incredible Album, November 30, 1999
By
This review is from: Tattoos & Scars (Audio CD)
This is, by far, the best album I own! There is not one song on there that someone can't relate to! They bring back the old country with a new kick. Get your heart pumping with 'All Night Long' then reflect with 'Tattoos & Scars'. Have fun with 'Didn't Your Momma Tell You' then come back to reality with 'Self Made Man'. Well worth your money! I can't get it out of my CD players in the car and at home! Buy and enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Which album was that editor listening to??, April 14, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Tattoos & Scars (Audio CD)
Ok, so this is waaaay past due, but I was just looking through the comments on this CD and was dumbfounded by the main editor's comments. This has got to be one of the best debut albums that I've ever heard in my life. I will often listen to it several times through in a row, especially if I'm out driving. "Trying to Survive", "Self Made Man", "Tattoos & Scars" often get played multiple times on each pass, and of course there's the several that got big air play as well. I just don't get tired of this album. Like one of the earlier comments, "All night long" is probably its only flaw. While not a bad song, it doesn't really fit in with the rest. Overall, this is a must-have CD for any country fan...and even non-country folks would like a lot of it. It helped me transition from all rock to country, and I've never looked back!

5.0 out of 5 stars Country with Cojones!, February 6, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Tattoos & Scars (Audio CD)
Dealing with themes of country boy alienation ("Hillbilly Shoes"), a bad boy's brokenheartedness ("Lonely and Gone," "Trouble Is," and "Self-Made Man"), rural pride ("Daddy Won't Sell the Farm"), and generation gaps ("Tattoos and Scars"), this CD doesn't disappoint male fans of "southern" music (fiddle, loud guitars, masculine subject matter, and non-urban attitude). If you bought "Carrying On" first like I did, don't waste anymore time. This CD, their debut, will not disappoint you. It was my favorite Christmas gift (2001)!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Nothing's Perfect, but this is close..., March 15, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Tattoos & Scars (Audio CD)
I am a fan of all types of music...I saw the Video of "Daddy Won't Sell The Farm" on TV and knew I had to have the CD...Their clear, true voices can bring you to tears (Tattoos & Scars) and their harmonies and band are superb...You can pump it up on all of the tracks or turn it soft to get a different feeling on all the songs...most "hard-core" Country fans probably think it is "too rock"...just the combination I like...Favorites are "Tattoos & Scars" (thoughtful); "Hillbilly Shoes" and "Daddy Won't Sell The Farm" (good pump up the sound and stomp yer shoes)!

Country music has not always been one of my favorite music types, but I will admit that this CD has become one of my daily "must listen to" choices. I love the driving beat heard in the songs and the harmony is great. I highly recommend this release!

5.0 out of 5 stars RELIEF, March 9, 2000
This review is from: Tattoos & Scars (Audio CD)
How do you spell "relief" (from the endless plateau of dullness that music is currently on)? MONTGOMERY GENTRY! Kick it with the uptempo "Hillbilly Shoes" and "Daddy Won't Sell the Farm". Swagger to "I've Loved a Lot More Than I've Hurt". And let "Tattoos & Scars" get you mellow. Don't forget to enjoy the rest of the CD, including the great hit "Lonely and Gone". I've listened to this 2 or 3 times in one day.
