First Rate Economic History,

Students of American Economic History can find rich detail in this book. Rabushka has done a great service in writing such a detailed history of colonial taxation. Furthermore, anyone interested in current issues can learn about the problems of unjust and arbitrary taxation. This book can inform current debates with examples that pertain to current efforts to increase the tax burden. It would, however, be useful for Rabushka to edit or write an abridged version, so as to enable those with tight time schedules to read the most interesting and important material in this book. That aside, Taxation in Colonial America is an excellent book.
