Fabulously Chilean,

I lived in Chile for 5 years, and the neighborhoods depicted in this film for part of that time, and I found this to be an excellent slice of Chile. And I really like the movie! And so did my friend who knows no Spanish nor has lived in Chile.
The Spanish in the movie is an extreme dialect, but it's accurate. I showed a clip of the movie to my graduate level Spanish phonology class, and it blew my students' minds! So, don't expect to understand everything they say unless you've spent a fair amount of time listening to marginalized santiaguinos from the late 90s!

Esta película refleja la historia de un humilde taxista que es intimidado por unos vulgares ladrones (cogoteros) que lo secuentran y hacen que participen de sus fechorías... en el transcurso de esta historia el taxista se da cuenta que existen dos tipos de vida distintos, la de un delincuente que obtiene todo lo que quiere en forma fácil, y la de un hombre honesto y humilde que lucha a diario para dar el sustento a su familia..Muy recomendada para mis amigos chilenos.. |
