-The Toronto Star

This is the book many taxidermy fans and collectors have been waiting for - a book that showcases the work of modern art taxidermists and/or “rogue” taxidermy artists. Instead of aiming for the absolute verisimilitude of commercial and competition taxidermists, these artists are telling a story with their work. This book includes all of my personal favorite artists, including Sarina Brewer, Liz McGrath, Jessica Joslin, Polly Morgan, and Les Deux Garcons.

The beginning of this book is filled with information about taxidermy laws, the emergence of “Rogue Taxidermy, taxidermy innovators, and some brief history of the art. The bulk of the book is full of beautiful color photographs of the work of the featured artists and a short biography. Inside this book you will find unicorns, two-headed chicks, winged fox, human faced antelope, clockwork animals, sideshow weasels, plush monsters, chimerical creatures, and many others.

The book concludes with detailed workshops for mounting a squirrel and bird. The detailed instructions include material lists, safety information, and illustrations to guide in preparing, skinning, mounting and finishing a specimen. There are also instructions for skull cleaning and whitening, wet specimen preservation and home tanning. A thoughtful inclusion by the author is a list of further reading, places to visit, supplies, and legal resources.

This is an absolutely amazing work on the fantastic field that is rogue taxidermy. As someone who has loved rogue taxidermy for quite some time, I was immediately drawn to the astoundingly beautiful images contained within. I greatly appreciate the combination of taxidermy history with images from a variety of amazing artists. More than that, John Waters likes it, what more do you need to know, seriously?

This book is a very interesting look into the lives and work of the people who do this art form. Ok maybe I'm am biased because I am one of the featured artists but I really found the other artists in the book fascinating he reveled the world to hunt these charectors down and shot them in their own environments. I don't do real taxidermy but faux taxidermy and I don't approve of taxidermy for sport - I don't even wear and leather or fur ! The artists depicted are mostly using found animals from the side of the road and such- they are not hunting them down!

If you get the chance to hear one of Robert Marbury's lectures it's highly educational, humorous and entertaining! So many interesting things to learn and exciting prizes to win!

One of the best books I have ever owned! Robert brings you into the world of rogue taxidermy by not only showing some of these amazing artists work, but also even gives 50 pages of taxidermy workshops. This book is worth every penny! I highly recommend it to anyone. Even if you arent looking into doing taxidermy it is a great book to appreciate the work alone. He also lists all sorts of other resources such as books on natural history, books on taxidermy, books on art, online resources, he even suggests places to visit such as oddities shops and museums. Its a really great book so buy it and you will not regret it!

This book is engaging and visually stunning. It covers a wide range of taxidermy art in a way that is accessible to the uninitiated, but detailed enough for those already in the know. The Kindle version is especially nice because it allows you to zoom in and out on the photographs. There is something for everyone in this one of a kind compiliation.

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my father, who has been doing taxidermy for many years. He got a kick out of seeing all of the creations, and I think it may inspire him to make some creative things himself. Fun for someone who appreciates off the wall art, and has a slightly morbid sense of humor.

Very impressed with how thoughtfully this book was made - it's accessible to the casual reader but also detailed enough to engage folks who have been in taxidermy (and taxidermy art) for a long time. Photos and illustrations are beautiful as well - I could just flip through those alone over and over, but there's so much more detail and context provided that you can really learn something too. Feels like a "must have" contemporary summary of the rogue taxidermy world. I think this would be especially inspiring and encouraging for artists who are just beginning to experiment here, to see just how far and wide artists and everyday enthusiasts have pushed the form with their passions.
