About the Author

As a writer and photographer, the late Russell Tinsley was well known in the outdoors field. He was the first outdoor editor of the Austin American Statesman newspaper, a position he held for over 30 years. Russell also wrote numerous books, including Hunting the Whitetail Deer and Fishing Texas. He was the host of an outdoor radio show on KLBJ in Austin and was a contributing editor and founder of the Texas Fish & Game magazine. In 2003, Russell was awarded the Ham Brown Award for exceptional service to the Outdoor Writers Association of America, the highest honor given by the association. Russell held a degree in communications from the University of Texas and was a member of the Air Force ROTC.

The book is very basic. It would be almost impossible to create a quality mount using this book. Also, the book was first published in 1967 and the methods are outdated. Today, almost all mounts are done using preformed polyurethane foam manikins.

the book is not only good for the beginner,but also those who have been doing taxidermy for years.it covers all aspects of taxidermy,from small game,snakes,to big GAME.so if you are interested in learning,this book is by far a great learning tool,and a must in every taxidermists library.

This book is very good.It has all the steps written and in clear pictures.It tells you how to mount birds, fish,how to mount whole bodys,rugs,big game heads and much more! It is not outdated. just go ahead and youse a manikin with legs instead of wires. I recommend this to ANY! one who wants to start taxidermy.
