5.0 out of 5 stars 5 different types of rice and all cooked perfectly! Love it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Great when it works but . . .
I was thrilled to find this item. I'd been looking for a stainless steel pot cooker. It arrived promptly and we began using it once and twice a day to cook porridge and rice and other grains. We were pleased with its performance. However, after just 3 months of use, the cover hinge became frayed which usually made it impossible to close it properly. I boxed it up and sent...

I have owned several rice cookers as we love rice in our family. I had planned to by a Zojirushi but was disappointed when I found that they did not have any with a stainless steel pot on the inside. I have stopped using any cookware products with non stick interiors. So I kept searching for a quality rice cooker but only found aluminum interiors, and I didn't want that. The odd thing is, you can find many rice cookers with beautiful stainless steel EXTERIORS but not stainless inside, where you need it!
I happened onto a rice discussion amongst some Asians and they were saying they love their Zojirushi and they love their Tayama. I had never heard of Tayama, did a search and found this. And I was very excited to see it had a stanless steel interior version available....wahoo!
I was skeptical, but bought it anyway. This rice cooker ROCKS! It is fantastic. I have cooked long, short, white, brown, sushi, sticky and every time it has been perfect...each little grain fluffing perfectly.
A big plus is it cooks my steel cut Irish Oatmeal beautifully, giving it a nice firm crunch....I hate soggy, lumpy oatmeal.
I have a kitchen full of stainless steel so I was a bit unsure of the flowers on the outside, but I just don't care, this little cooker is great. I have used it daily for 3 weeks now and it is perfect.
The directions could be better, they loose something in translation, for instance it tells you not to clean pot with sandpaper. I'm sure they meant a hard abrasive, but it is kind of funny. They also refer to the rice cooker as "An Electric Jar".
If you are looking for a high quality rice cooker with a stainless interior pot, this is your cooker!

After doing some research on a rice cooker with a stainless steel pot, we found this one. There are so many rice cookers with stainless steel outside but not the pot. Most of rice cookers on the market have nonstick pot. Despite its lower ratings, I decided to give Tayama a shot.

The seller packaged it carefully and shippped it quickly. The rice cooker is big enough to cook for several people. It is very easy to use. Use the cup it comes with to measure rice. Add water to reach the corresponding water level marked on the pot. For example, if you add 4 cups of rice, add water to reach water level 4 on the pot. Push the cook button down. The rice will be ready in around 20 minutes.

We have been using the rice cooker for around 3 weeks. Compared with nonstick pot, stainless steel pot is relatively difficult to clean. I always soak the pot with water. Then it becomes very easy to wash. To avoid TEFLON and aluminum, it is the way to go. Now we replaced most of utensils by stainless steel ones. We only keep one hard anodized nonstick stir-fry pan for cooking. Aluminum may cause Alzheimer's Disease. Avoid aluminum whenever possible.

I boxed it up and sent it to the manufacturer according to directions under the title Limited Warranty that came in the User's Manual. They told me they only cover ELECTRICAL defects! When faxed a copy of their own warranty (which does not limit covered problems to electrical), they did send me a refurbished unit that is of a different design. So far, it is working fine, although the switch is very loose as another customer mentions here. I really want to rate this higher, but can't.

I was very excited to receive this rice cooker as I had been looking for a rice cooker with stainless steel pot for some time.

The was pleased with the results the first and second time I used it, however the 3rd time I used it, the cooker turned off rather than to 'warm' as it is supposed to - and I was never able to turn it on again.

I made only 4 cups of rice but steam bubbled out of the hinge side of the top and must have caused a short. Unfortunately, I discarded the box it came in, and the receipt so it's an expense I'll just have to 'eat' - or not eat, as is the case! The instructions were a hoot, as the other reviewer wrote - it's unfortunate that the performance of this rice maker was a total thumbs down.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not so good, December 26, 2007
This review is from: Tayama 10 Cup Stainless Steel Rice Cooker (Kitchen)
I was very excited to find a rice cooker that had a stainless steel interior. This was the only one I could find.

It arrived very quickly and well packaged. The seller was great. Sadly the product wasn't.

As soon as the cooker arrived I put it to use. The instructions, as previous reviewer mentioned, were a bit hard to undestand. I consulted a friend of mine who grew up in Japan and uses a rice cooker everyday to make sure I was using this one correctly. Fresh out of the box I noticed the switch was very loose. It took a few tries to get it to start cooking. This should have been my first clue something wasn't right. About 30 minues later, I smelled burning. The rice was burned to the bottom and the cooker never shut off. This was very disappointing.

I felt the quality of this product was very poor. The seller was very accomodating on the return. They were great. The product stinks. Don't buy this one.

Used this rice cooker less than a dozen times and it quit working, does not turn on. Recieved it with no instructions but have used other rice cookers, how hard is cook/warm rice/porrage. Loved the stainless but what good is it now.

I've had this product for about a year. While it was working it was great. One day it would no longer cook rice. The switch would not stay on. I took apart the machine and found out why. All of the wires inside were screwed down except one. One of the wires was GLUED down on the bottom of the pot. My guess is that after using it everyday the heat finally made the glue come off. I found a screw around the house that fit and screwed it on myself (there's a hole). It's working for now but I'm now currently looking for a replacement.
