5.0 out of 5 stars Good value
This inexpensive scale is accurate, reproducible, and a good value for the money. The large analog dial is easy to read. The movable marking pins are helpful. I have no regrets over this purchase.

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of money!!
I purchased this scale based on the Taylor reputation and the large readable dial on the scale. My first impression upon opening the package was that it was light weight - not a good sign of something you are going to put all your weight on. I placed it on a thin throw rug (where I always placed my old scale) and it gave a very inaccurate rating of 120 lbs (I weigh 270)...

I purchased this scale based on the Taylor reputation and the large readable dial on the scale. My first impression upon opening the package was that it was light weight - not a good sign of something you are going to put all your weight on. I placed it on a thin throw rug (where I always placed my old scale) and it gave a very inaccurate rating of 120 lbs (I weigh 270). I then placed it on the hardwood floor and again I got a reading first at 120, then 140 and then over 200, then back to 120, etc. I figured it out that depending on what part of the scale my center of gravity fell, I got a different reading. The highest it read was 240. At this point, I had my wife stand on the thing. It showed she weighed around 60 lbs and then she had the same kind of reading swings - none of them near her weight of 125 lbs.
I rechecked the instruction to make sure I did everything correct - I thought just take it out of the box, place on firm surface, zero the meter, and stand on it. This is how all other scales worked. There's was a little different -stand on, stand off, repeat several times, and then zero. I did this and repeated the same results as before. I took it back and got a refund.
This product has a scale that goes to 300 lbs so I don't think I was overstressing it (close but not quite). The surface had a very flimsy feel, you could feel the metal flexing as you stepped on and shifted your weight - probably the reason for the wildly swinging readings. This unit is definitely junk and not worth the money you pay. "You get what you pay for" doesn't even apply. I expected at least a consistent - if erroneous - reading while standing still on the scale. What I got was a needle on the dial dancing around like one on a stereo VU meter (my apologies and sympathies to those too young to know what that means - you missed some great quality equipment).

I was confused after reading the reviews. There were two extremes for this scale. Anyway, my wife wanted a mechanical scale and this one seems like fully filled her requirement, so I made the purchase. It is really a great buy with the $10 promotion and free shipping.
I found it to be quite accurate. I like its large readout scale and four markers in different colors. I have a family of four, so it turned out perfect. It is very important to put the scale on a flat surface and stand right in the center. If you tilted either side, you'll find the reading away off.
I was very happy with the purchase because my wife liked it. I'll never hear her yelling me to change batteries any more!

I like this scale. The dial is huge and easy to read. The design is pretty, looks great in a modern bathroom. I got a deal on it, $10 off promo, and I'm happy!

5.0 out of 5 stars On Balance, an Excellent Product for the Price, August 5, 2009

I've used the Taylor 1350J Mechanical Scale for almost three years, and have found it to be a reliable product and an excellent value. I only use mine on a hard, flat and level surface: either my tiled bathroom floor or the hardwood floor in my dressing area. I also weigh myself under the same conditions each time, so that my readings will always be comparable ... in other words, at the same time of day and wearing the same garments. A person's weight fluctuates day to day depending upon their fluid levels and other factors, so I'm unconcerned about whether I weigh exactly 188 pounds or 189 pounds. Using the colored indicator arrows at the top of the bezel, I just check to make sure that my weight is always within the same general range.

Of course it's important to make sure that the scale is balanced to zero before you step on it; I find the 1350J very easy to adjust, so that's not a problem. The only issue I have experienced with this product is the chrome frame, which after all these months is beginning to show little specks of rust from being exposured to moisture from the shower. This damage might have been avoided if I had not stored the scales in the bathroom and closed the door when showering, so I have to take the responsibility for the wear and tear I'm seeing.

I'm currently thinking of buying another scale and moving this one into the guest room, and have been looking at other brands and designs. However, my research has confirmed my perception of the Taylor 1350J as a superior scale in its price range, and so I'm definitely leaning toward choosing it again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Back to Basics, June 9, 2011

I bypassed similar Taylor scales in the past in favor of the "latest and greatest" but I'm back! This scale replaces TWO name brand sleek, fancy "technologically advanced" ones that calculate/store body composition, fat & weight for more than one programmed user AND visitors. Battery replacements, error messages and crappy manufacturer customer service made me donate them BOTH to Goodwill with hopes they find a patient, happy home elsewhere.

Easy initial calibration, reliable/consistent accuracy, movable colored pins help track your weight trends easily. There are no batteries, no flashing error messages, no routines to follow nor buttons to push. Just step on the scale, see the good, bad or ugly of your weight journey, step off and shove it under the bed until the next encounter. For seventeen bucks through Amazon Warehouse Deals, a couple more eligible items in my order, Super Saver Free Shipping and I'm a happy camper :)

This scale gives a different reading every time you step on it- even if you step on and off within a matter of seconds. It can fluctuate up to 5lbs within minutes. When I weigh my children on it, it can be as much as 20 pounds off, telling me that my 7 year old weighs 20lbs. I use this scale on a flat hard floor. It is completely useless.

i found this scale to be very hard to read, even with the large dial, if you aren't right on one of the numerals, and very inaccurate. i just went to the doctor yesterday and found out that i weigh 7 lbs less than the taylor was telling me. if you get off and on several times you will see that it reads something different every time.

i wouldn't buy this if i were you. i see there are good and bad reviews. too iffy in my estimation.

amazon made me give it a star before it would accept my reveiw, otherwise i wouldn't even give it one. it's useless to me.

1.0 out of 5 stars Hard to Read Dial, February 19, 2007
This review is from: Taylor 1350J Large Profile Mechanical Scale in Chrome (Health and Beauty)
If you notice in the picture of this scale, the individual pound markings are hard to see. That is exactly how it is in real life. Because the lines are almost the same length, it is almost impossible to distinguish whether the reading is at, for example, 107 lbs., 107.5 lbs. or 108 lbs. My glasses prescription gives me better than 20/20 vision and I can't see if I have lost or gained a pound with this scale.
