Great for cooking on the grill too!

I never got to use the extra probe, because within a year the thermometer stopped working and just displayed Lo in the Temp. box.

Soon after, the alert stopped indicating the set temp had been reached.

This thermometer isn't worth the scrap value if the metal its made of. I owned the older version of this thermometer and it was great it was accurate and reliable and I used it without incident for 3 years. I accidentally dropped it in some water and it no longer worked. Having been very happy with it I went out and bought two replacements both worked reliably for about 2-3 uses before reading Lo all the time. I called Taylor and they replaced them no questions asked and I had them within a couple of days great customer service. Unfortunately the two replacements I received have both done the exact same thing worked perfectly for a few uses and then display only Lo. Trying to save a few cents on material costs have made a bad product stay away from this one, even random defects can't account for 4 defective units in under a year.

I ordered this item when my old timer (which is almost identical to this one) just went and stopped working on me one day. I loved the model I have, so I wanted something that was similar. This fit the bill. And it was cheaper! The meat thermometer works great and I haven't had any issue with this timer at all yet. (I've had it for less than six months.) My only complaint is that the on/off switch is kind of tough to slide back and forth at times. But it's not a dealbreaker for me.

After reading this "review" by an individual claiming to be an engineer for Taylor, we decided to take a chance, and purchased this exact model at Target.

He gave 4 points of caution in handing and caring for the Taylor temperature probes.

I was confident that if we were simply careful, ours would last.

The first time we used it, we were baking chicken breasts. I inserted the probe approximately 1.5 inches into the chicken breast where it read 74°. I placed the cast iron skillet into the oven, and set the alarm for 160° and walked away. About 90 seconds later, the alarm went off. Strange, I thought... I must have set something incorrectly. Nope. The temperature display was blinking "HI" over and over. I turned the unit off and back on, and it still blinked "HI" and the alarm went off immediately. This is now its permanent state.

We couldn't be more disappointed.

I've had a Taylor Grill thermometer going on 7 years and still works great. Temp is spot on, just remember to get the probe in the center of the food so it reads accurately. I don't think your supposed to put the probe in the dishwasher to clean but I do with no problems. Seems to be loud enough to me. In my 50's with hearing problems, but when the food is being close to done I'm usually close to the grill so alarm is not the problem. Love the temp and timer feature. Use the timer to time grill marks on meat, when to turn and flip, etc. This is the most important tool in my grilling arsenal Highly recommended, just learn how to use it : )

As with some other customers I purchased this unit with an additional replacement probe as suggested. I never got to use the extra probe, because within a year the thermometer stopped working and just displayed Lo in the Temp. box. I just got off the phone with Catherine at Taylor who could not have been less help. She suggested I return the unit with all the necessary papers (at my expense) and they will see what they can do. With all the time and money wasted, for 20 dollars I could just buy a new one. I would just like it to last more that 9 months and not have the customer service rep. keep repeating, "Thats our policy." Look around and stay away from this one, unless you want a timer, that still works.

This thermometer isn't accurate to within 20 degrees. There's no way to calibrate (I checked Taylor's website), and it will spontaneously jump up 20-60 degrees and then as suddenly drop down to an equally inaccurate temperature. DO NOT BUY.

I like everything about this thermometer except for the durability. I went through 4 of them and each one stopped working after only a few weeks. The best performer made it two months. I kept returning them because I REALLY wanted it to work. I finally gave up after the 4th try though. I decided that it just wasn't going to work.

I just can't recommend this at all even though I wish it would work.

Item did not work properly from the start. After a bit of on line research it seems that what appears to be a well made device is severly limited by a poorly designed and unreliable temperature probe.
