4.0 out of 5 stars Works well, as advertised
I purchased the Taylor 1524 Wireless Thermometer to use to monitor my attic to verify how well the attic fan I installed was working. I verified the accuracy with another thermometer and both were in sinc. The distance between the two units is about 30 feet and the only obstructions are the ceiling and a wall. The unit works as advertised, within 1 degree F. The...

1.0 out of 5 stars So bad
This product is horrible. You must have an eyeglass screwdriver to install or replace batteries, the atomic clock does not work, and the inside unit constantly loses contact with the outdoor unit (they are placed not more than 6 feet from each other). I wish I had saved my receipt, but instead I will just throw it in the trash. Money wasted.

1.0 out of 5 stars Didn't last long, February 20, 2009

This review is from: Taylor 1524 Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer (Kitchen)
I got it for Christmas 2008. By mid=February 19, 2009 the remote unit first started giving erratic readings, then died. At first I hoped it was a dead battery, but new batteries made no difference. Apparently despite being labeled "Indoor/Outdoor" the remote unit can't handle being left outside.

If you do buy it, make sure you have a very small Phillips screwdriver on hand to remove the remote's battery cover. Two of the screws are in very deep recesses and impossible to access otherwise.

Used this for about two days and noticed the " indoor " temperature read 74.3 degrees and never changed. After contacting TAYLOR three times they said to ship it back for a return / replacement. Needed to include receipt.
Paid to ship it back. Four weeks later and contacting them again I received a new unit with the the wrong shipping Name on package that looked like it had been riding on a truck for weeks. It has been working O.K. for now. Taylor products are lacking the quality they once had ( no more USA made ).

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor design and quality control, December 2, 2010
This review is from: Taylor 1524 Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer (Kitchen)
The unit I bought didn't work out of the box. The remote claimed it was transmitting (LED would light), but the base never showed it received a signal, even though they were next to each other. Tried all three channels on the remote, and cycled through the channels on the base each time just in case.

Considering the many other customers reporting issues, this is clearly a company to stay away from until they can improve their quality control.

The unit has a warranty, but it requires mailing the defective one to Taylor (at my expense, naturally), with the original purchase receipt. Not likely.

I'll also echo the complaints about the battery compartment screws (two of which are under the remote's stand, so they're hard to find and get at). I have a wide array of jeweler's and other screwdrivers, and it took me a while to find one that fit the screw heads.

3.0 out of 5 stars Remote indoor-outdoor thermometer, August 3, 2011

This unit was to replace an old unit that had been in service for about two years. The old outdoor transmitter worked fine, operating about 40 feet from the receiver. But it got infested with ants, unbenownst to me, and shorted out the electronics.
I installed the new one in the same place, but stuck some ant repellant on it. It worked for just a few days, then quit transmitting. I bought better, high-priced batteries, and it worked for a few more days, then quit. I have now moved it up close to the window, about 15 feet from the receiver, and it is working. But this is not the best spot, because it is in the sun in the mornings.
The transmitter just seems to be under-powered compared to the old one. The old one was also a Taylor, appeared similiar, but I'm not sure it was the exact-same model. I bought it at a hardware store.
I am going to try and modify this location, to minimize the sun. The ant repellant seemed to be working, but I am going to be more vigilant.

I verified the accuracy with another thermometer and both were in sinc. The distance between the two units is about 30 feet and the only obstructions are the ceiling and a wall. The unit works as advertised, within 1 degree F. The installing of the battery in the base unit is a little tricky in that it takes a very small phillips screwdriver and if sufficient pressure is not applied, you could strip the screw head. If that happened you would need to return for a new unit. I trust the company would honor the replacement as the too tight screw should be considered a manufacturing defect.

2.0 out of 5 stars Can't use 2 systems of the same type., November 28, 2010
This review is from: Taylor 1524 Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer (Kitchen)
I bought one 2 years ago, has worked fine. Ace had a sale on them for $9.95, I bought one and I could not get it to read its own remote sensor, it kept reading the 2 year old one. I set up the new one on channel 2 then 3, it would not work on either channel, only channel 1. I tried switching the old unit from 2 to 3 and it would not read on either.
Apparently the remotes only operate on channel 1 when only one is connected, you can connect 2 or 3 remotes and read each one from one main unit by letting it cycle from one remote to the other, however, I wanted one main unit on each floor.
I am taking the new one back to Ace.

1.0 out of 5 stars Goes out of sync, January 16, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Taylor 1524 Wireless Indoor/Outdoor Thermometer (Kitchen)
Every week or two the outdoor thermometer has to be sync'd again with the indoor one, and to make it worse you can't see the outdoor temperature on the outdoor thermometer. I knew the outdoor unit had no display, but did not know ahead it would keep going out of sync. I have had two previous model Taylor indoor/ outdoor digital therometers. I thought they knew how to build them because the others worked fine, but this one is a dud.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

So bad. Cold weather seems to shut the remote unit down (yep, that's right). The indoor temp is wildly inaccurate. And I actually had to go to a hardware store and buy a small screwdriver just to insert the batteries. This thing is overpriced junk, stay away.
