Product Description

Amazon.com

Those participating in weight loss or fitness programs are sure to see some major changes to their bodies. But how to make sense of what is really going on in there? Taylor’s combination scale/body fat analyzer measures both weight and body fat percentage so you can make sure both are at healthy levels. A certain amount of fat in the diet is helpful in warding off major health problems and this monitor lets you know if you are within the healthy range, or over the appropriate level for your height, age, and weight. Likewise, this scale can show dieters if their slow rate of weight loss is due to a build-up of muscle from their fitness programs rather than eating the wrong foods.

To assess your weight, simply step on the scale and the LCD will display an accurate reading for up to 300 pounds of weight in just seconds. To calculate body fat, turn the power button on and follow the scale’s prompts to enter in your height, age, and gender. Next, simply step on the ridged platform and using BIA (bioelectrical impedance analysis) technology, the scale sends a harmless electric current through your body to report your body fat and weight readings together in about 10 seconds. A display graph shows where your body fat percentage ranks on the charts according to national health experts. The scale saves personal data for up to four family members so there is no need to re-program information at every use. Because of the mild electrical current involved in taking body fat measurements, Taylor cautions adults with pacemakers and internal medical devices, pregnant women, professional athletes, and children under the age of 18 not to use the product. Taylor covers this scale/body fat analyzer under a lifetime warranty. --Cristina Vaamonde

5.0 out of 5 stars Lifetime Warranty and Best Buy from Consumer Magazine, January 27, 2006

This review is from: Taylor 5553 Bia Body Fat Analyzer Bath Scale (Health and Beauty)
There is no 100% accurate scale. So you can just get the best one for the money. I've used different scales and I'm happy with Taylor. I've seen this scale for $50.00 at most websites. I know a lot of people rated this scale kind of poor. However, it's not this scale only, all scales get rated poor. A scale is a offensive object. It's tells things people don't want to know.

People complain about the inaccuracy on measuring fat. It is a approximate, and all scales work the same way. So wether you buy the plus $100.00 scale, or this low price Taylor, it's the same accuracy. One thing you got to ask yourself is although measuring the fat is approximate, WILL AN APPROXIMATE AMOUNT HELP YOU LOSE WEIGHT? My answer would be yes. So spend the extra few dollars and get a fat analyzer scale.

Finding a scale with a lifetime warranty is very hard. Scales do wear out with use, so I'm surprised this company will offer that.

Negative: It took me about 10 minutes to program the scale and reading the instructions about 4 times. So it's not the easiest instructions to follow.

3.0 out of 5 stars Tempermental scale, February 4, 2005
This review is from: Taylor 5553 Bia Body Fat Analyzer Bath Scale (Health and Beauty)
I have had my scale for several years now. The price was right. The weight reading seem accurate, and the body fat seems to be consistent, but I am not sure how accurate it is. I have lost weight lately (and I am sure body fat) and the scale confirms this. The body fat measurement are high if I drink a lot of water or am bloated! This may be the variability some people are referring to. My problem is that every so often the scale will not give me any reading at all! It displays an EE instead of a reading (it is not the battery). I have found that it needs to be on a VERY level surface, with no vibrations. It will only work in certain locations, and it will go off by itself if the battery is left in. I am beginning to be convinced that it is sensitive to barometric pressure, as there is a high-pressure front coming in and my scale will not work. I might recommend avoiding some frustration and trying a different brand of scale with fewer quirks if you can find one for a comprable price.

2.0 out of 5 stars Scale is okay. B.F. analyzer doesn't work. Plus the NOISE, May 2, 2004

It works great as a scale. Comparing what it reads to friends' scales is accurate. However, the body fat analyzer is crazy. Giving extremely different measurements within a 10 minute period. Plus it is so LOUD. Is next to impossible not to wake someone up when I weigh myself in the morning. As a scale it works, but for less money I could easily have a regular scale to tell me the same information.
