Accurate Weight, Inaccurate Body Fat,
By
This review is from: Taylor 5596W Body Fat and Body Water Scale with Daily Caloric reference (Health and Beauty)
This scale is very accurate with weights. It consistently gives the same results as the much more expensive scale at my gym. The problem is the Body Fat tester. It is very inaccurate. I went into this knowing that these things are never right, but can still be used as an indicator of whether your gaining or losing body fat.... Not so with this scale. First, it says I have 26% body fat (or higher sometimes). I'm 6'4", 185 and a basketball player in good shape. 26% is for obese people. It didn't matter whether I put it in Athlete mode or not. This would have been acceptable if I disregarded the actual number and used it as a gauge (If I have 25% a week later I'm doing good), but it couldn't be used like that either. I consistently jump from 20% to 30%, day to day. My routine is identical every day, wake up, drink a full glass of water, use the bathroom, wait 30 min, use the scale, didn't matter. Your body fat shouldn't change 7% in one day even after taking out the variables. So, it's basically a very expensive weight scale.

instructions were easy to understand and go by.but a heads up though, i first tried to use this on carpet and would get errors from not being able to read me right so use this on any surface but carpet. i like that it tells me my water weight. ive always thought i was retaining water weight and low and behold im just in within range. i also like how it tells me my current weight and how many calories i need to consume to maintain it. it also tells me my ideal weight and how many calories i should consume to maintain it. but wait, theres more! (sorry im being corny) the ideal weight that it gives me is actually IDEAL. im 5ft2, 5ft3 on good days. i have big bones and im built thick. By US standards i should naturally be between 100-120 max. HA! at the peak of my physical fitness i was 144. only way i could get my weight that low is if i do drugs or amputate a body part. This machine sends electrical signals through your body (beware pace maker folks) and it determines how much fat you have by how much resistance it goes through (not sure but thats how i understood it, best to look it up). i think it somehow determines your ideal weight by doing that too. im just happy something told me that i ideally i shouldnt look like a toothpick. of course ive been preaching that all my life so its nice to have a second opinion. this is a must have buy for health nuts, workout folks, or just plain janes. its nice to know what your water weight and body fat is!! oh i almost forgot. when setting up your profile it just doesnt have the "athletic" or "non-athletic" it has in betweensies. so if your like kind of sort of but not really working out you could set it to 2 instead of....i havent worked out in years, i just lift my soda can or myself out the chair which would be setting 1. so thats cool too!

I broke it as soon as I tried to pop the back open to put the battery in. Then after I got it to work, I put my info in but the numbers flash quick and its hard to tell what they mean without either having the instructions in your hand or bending over to see the tiny writing. Please don't get off and pick the machine up to read it because it does not save the info. the screen will just go blank.

This is a nice looking scales. It looks better than the picture. I have also found it to be accurate. However, you have to be careful when you unwrap the battery. It connects with a little spring that can spring right out of the scales. I haven't been able to use any other features other than the weight reading. Maybe it is because I haven't made my feet moist enough, but that is not convenient for me. Also, I thought it would light up. I usually have to light up the room so that I can see the numbers, but my eyes are not as good as they used to be.

Good price, looks nice, works best as a scale. The other functions are hard to use.

I wrote my review a few years ago and while it was great when I first got it, it quickly went down hill. This product is not very accurate.

As a scale, this one is accurate. Easy to use, but the BMI is somehow not as good as the weight measuring.

The body weight scale is accurate with the reference of doctor scales at two locations of my gym. The bodybat meter is stable. For me and my wife, if the reading is x% in the morning, it is x-0.6% in the afternoon and x-0.9% in the evening. It never changes dramatically from day to day, say, less than 0.1 percent overnight change. Surely this can work as a reference of one's body fat change. The water level meter works the same way as body fat meter. There are reviews reporting these meters fluctuate dramatically - not for me.For each user, one have to create a profile to measure his or her body fat and water level. However, the manual was poorly presented and it took me a while to set the user profile up. Be prepared to do some test on this. Overall it is a good investment, for the price and for the quality.

This is really more than what I needed, but at the time the price was good. I could have done with just a simple weight display. I found this one too much trouble to get back to my profile setup. If your're looking just to monitor weight loss, get a different model.

It's a trick to set up the scale. when I switched the lb/inch to kg/cm, the scale never got to work. Finally I realized I turned the switch too right, so it reached the 'off' status. I don't like the memory design. Each time you need to choose your number where you put your information before, then press 'set'. If you ignore this, your inoformation may overwrite other people's data.Generally speaking, it works well. |
