5.0 out of 5 stars Inexpensive, simple, and easy to use
What more can you want in a kitchen timer? It has two countdown timers, each of which can be set up to 23 hours and 59 minutes. The display is a good size--not too big, but big enough that the display is easy to read. It has an angled bottom, so it sits nicely on the counter. It also has a magnet on the back if you want to attach it to the range hood or the...

This is the second Taylor kitchen timer I've gotten and it will be the last. First, it's awkward to deal with the timer - there's a sliding switch on the back where you have to switch it to choose the mode. I could deal with that, but now I don't have to - it only worked for a week. After that, anytime you slid the switch to timer the alarm would go off and no amount of...

What more can you want in a kitchen timer? It has two countdown timers, each of which can be set up to 23 hours and 59 minutes. The display is a good size--not too big, but big enough that the display is easy to read. It has an angled bottom, so it sits nicely on the counter. It also has a magnet on the back if you want to attach it to the range hood or the refrigerator. It's easy to set--press 'Hr' to set hours or 'Min' to set the minutes. If you have to go to a high number, hold the button down and the timer quickly advances. It has a switch on the back where you can have it display the time and date when you're not using it as a timer. About the only niggle I find with it is that clearing the timer is unintuitive--you have to press 'Hr' and 'Min' simultaneously to reset the timer. Other than that I find it completely intuitive and easy to use. It takes a single AAA battery to run the timer, and it's easy to replace. I am really happy with this timer, and it was cheap! A really great purchase.

Even taking the battery out and reinserting it wouldn't break the cycle.

Stopped working after 2 weeks. I used it in the kitchen only. Taylor will not get me again. However the display shows up very good from the bottom of my garbage bin.

3.0 out of 5 stars Loud beep, poorly placed magnet, February 10, 2010

Pros:
- The two independent timers are very convenient.
- The alarms are loud so you can hear them from the next room

Cons:
- When you're setting the timer it beeps every time you press a button.
- The magnet on the back is poorly placed, so when you stick it on the fridge, it will swivel and hang upside down. It'll sit on your counter without any problems though.

4.0 out of 5 stars not bad, July 10, 2008
This review is from: Taylor 5828 Dual Event Timer (Kitchen)
I really like this timer because its easy to use,but the alarm isn't very loud (Though I'm a bit deaf). my oven alarm is much louder and I can hear that, but if your in another room with this timer say watching TV its very hard to hear,so Ive been taking it with me. And the magnet on the back doesn't hold up very well. Though it does have a clip which I use.
Other than that I'm glad I bought it.

2.0 out of 5 stars loved it until it broke, October 19, 2009

This timer was very useful with the dual timers and clock/date display. The only problem was that it could be very easily knocked off the fridge (the magnet wasn't strong enough), and sure enough it hit the ground and broke.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good timer, until it died, May 28, 2009

I thought this was a great product... it was very useful to have two timers, and I liked the fact that it could be used with the magnet on my fridge, standing up on the counter, or clipped in my pocket. Then one day after I owned it for a few months, I heard a crash in my kitchen. The magnet had become unglued from the back of the timer, so the timer had crashed to the floor. It didn't look broken, but it wouldn't work any more, and no amount of tinkering helped. Too bad the manufacturer used such cheap glue for the magnet.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Clock Timer/good service, March 11, 2010

I bought five of these at once about a year ago. One was dead out of the box. Taylor replaced it immediately upon my emailed query about what to do. Since then, rock solid.
Two timer windows are handy for timing simultaneous events of different duration. Separate hour and minute windows speed up settings for longer events. No ability to set seconds, though seconds show on countdown. Can't comment on magnet issue as I only use with stand. Taylor provides better service than does Presto for its otherwise comparable timer; unlike the Presto, all buttons on the Taylor still working after a year.
Large numbers (1/2" high) are easier to see than numbers on most timers. Switch to clock mode on the back with a small durable switch. Cannot see clock and timer at same time, but clock is a full function time/day/date display. Hour setting permits using it as alarm clock -- just set the number of hours and minutes to sleep.

Update: April 21, 2011. I bought five of these babies and they're still working like champs. That includes a lot of dropping. I have had a small problem losing the metal clip on the back that expands the stand; but the timer itself is wide enough to stand up without the stand so the missing metal bracket is not a big deal. My guess is that Taylor has a reliability problem in manufacturing. As I noted, one of my five timers was DOA. About 9 of 17 bad reviews here (ratings of 1 and 2 stars) report sudden death. That's worse than my 20% experience. Only one reviewer mentions contacting Taylor. That reviewer reported no success. Contrary to that experience, though, Taylor answered me immediately and sent a replacement at their own initiative. They did not request return of the broken timer. I did send proof of purchase (my Amazon order) along with my email asking for service. The replacement has been working fine. In a pinch, I'd give this timer a shot and report any lack of responsiveness of Taylor here on Amazon. Maybe this timer is like the little girl with the golden curl who, "when she was good, she was very, very good; but when she was bad, she was horrid".

We have used the timer and it has worked well. It was necessary to have two timers as we often cook concurrently. The product works well and is easy to operate.

2.0 out of 5 stars Descrption Not Accurate, July 7, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Taylor 5828 Dual Event Timer (Kitchen)
The description of this item says "Counts down or counts up in hours,minutes,and/or seconds". This is not accurate. The time only counts up after being used to count down. If you want to use it to keep an eye on how long something has been happening rather than counting down to when it is finished, this timer is useless.
