Product Description

The perfect portable scale attractive enough to keep out, or easy to carry with the built in handle. Plus, the scale is extra slim so it is easy to tuck away. The handle is covered with a rubberized finish that is soft to the touch. It is very easy to read the 2.0 jumbo display which is accented by a blue Accu-Glo readout. A super high 440 lb capacity still reads in precise increments of 0.2 lbs. Instant on technology means no waiting or tapping to start the scale just step on to get the weight reading. Runs on alkaline batteries, which are included.

I have bought a few other scales before this one and took them all back due to inaccurate weights and just plain poor quality. I picked this up and it is very well made, heavy and has rubber feet so it does not slide around. The scale is very accurate and has a large LCD so you can read the scale easily. You simply set it down on a flat surface the first time and touch the scale, it then calibrates itself and then you step on and wait for your weight, from then on just step on. If you move the scale you need to repeat this again but you do for all scales. Simple to use and accurate and build quality feels great. I would buy another one if needed. Also it runs on 4 AAA battery's not the lithium type, which in my book is better because of cost.

I agree with the other reviewer. This scale's LCD has a viewing angle which is about 45 degrees to the left! Basically if you step on it and look down you just see shadows. Fresh batteries don't help; it's the polarization/makeup of the LCD crystal. Annoying. But as the other reviewer said, there is a delay before it shuts off. I just step on it, wait for the readout to stop, then step off and lift up the left side to see my weight. For Taylor to goof up basic ergonomics of this is a shame. I had a HealtOMeter glass digital scale which worked for one month then just read "E" so I exchanged it at the store for this one. If this keeps working I'll be happy enough (readout to 0.2lb, AA batteries, backlit).

So I get on there. It gives a measurement.
I grab a mug, get back on the scale. It adds a pound.
I get on the scale again. And now it's 2 pounds below what I got in the first step.

It's like it has a random number generator in there, I can't trust it at all.

It only has one function: to measure mass. And it fails at that. So what is its worth?

EDIT

I was researching this behavior and I found the reason for the inaccuracy:
A lot of scales will try to pretend that they are reproducible. So if you are within a certain amount, it'll just redisplay the last result instead of your actual mass.
To defeat this, you have to get on the scale with something heavy. Get off the scale. Get back on empty handed so you can trust what it reads.

Thanks Taylor, now getting my weight is an eight step process (probably can skip 1st 2 steps):
1. get on.
2. get off.
3. grab something heavy.
4. get on.
5. get off.
6. put heavy object away.
7. get on.
8. read display.

EDIT:
I got Seca Clara 803 Digital Personal Scale with Black Rubber Coating instead and am much happier. It actually displays a new measurement each time.

I've had electronic scales for years. Even built my own (HeathKit), which I calibrated with commercial weight equipment. Even though my many year old HeathKit scale still works, it's touchy: picking it up by anything but the base means taking it apart and resetting the load cells. So, I bought this Taylor 7405 from Kohls for a good price.

Pros:
* Large and clear display (viewable directly from above, while standing on it, or after getting off.
* It stays on for several seconds after getting off, as we have it jammed against the wall, making it a bit more difficult to read while standing on it (my/our physics, not the scale's fault).
* The backlit display means a very bright display, without having to turn the bathroom light on.
* It automatically zeros every time you get off.
* I turns on automatically when standing on it. I HATE scales I have to press a button with my toe or whatever to turn it on. Scales should go on when you stand on them.
* Accurate and consistent (more about the consistent part in the Cons below) readout, confirmed by my known accurate HeathKit scale.

Cons:
* The consistency is in part due to programming. I've found that unless my weight changes by a couple pounds, the scale reading will not change. That is, I can get on, and off, multiple times and get exactly the same weight, even if I pick up a small item weighing a half pound to a pound. I'm sure Taylor did this to simulate a bit more accuracy, or rather consistency, than a scale in this price range can provide. To combat this, my wife and I alternate our weighings, and I get a new weight each time, still within the correct and acceptable range. Another way is to pick up a 3# weight we keep in the room for exercising, and subtract 3#.

Purchased but found you can't see the weight by looking straight down. You must step off the scales and step back to get the right angle to see the numbers. That in itself is ok since it keeps the weight displayed for 3 seconds.

Problem comes in that the scales screen runs does not immediately come up with the weight so you don't know when it has your weight cause you can't read it! Taking it back.

Other than this major flaw it appeared to weigh accurately & repeatably.

I had a cheaper analog scale from Taylor and gave it 1 star because I couldn’t give it minus stars, but this one gets 5 stars…(I would give this one a ride IN a monster truck (not run it over with monster truck and back up like the last review for that cheaper analog model I disliked intensely……so far ….4 months…so good…)

I had decided digital scales ate batteries as got older etc. so did not initially want another one but was shopping for other items at local dept. store and this one on sale at Shopko…(is about $4 less here at Amazon I note.)…powered by 3 AAA batteries so could try rechargeables maybe and do not need to buy expensive lithium round batteries like other models I had…

First off, THANK YOU to all who post here…I find this site INVALUABLE for reviews of products….

Pros:

---Automatically zeroes each time you get off; don’t have to turn on with your toe or anything first.

---Carrying handle—love that very unique feature as I need one I can utilize other than only in bathroom and very nice to be comfortably rubberized too. Slim but large enough for comfy foot placement and very sturdy feeling to it too.

---Actually a pro for me that an 11 lb. cat does not turn this one on! … …[cat used to like to sit on my old digital scales and that used to wreak havoc with batteries, but I initially liked this one as I could hang it up but now find I don’t need to hang it up so stays handy on the floor]. (This one is lower to floor so I think maybe is not as attractive to sit on either for the cat as doesn’t give her much more height like old one did…yeah works for me…).
