Taylor Chef's Digital Timer and Stopwatch Clock

I've had my Taylor professional digital timer/stopwatch for 5 years now, and it's still going strong. I really like being able to hang it around my neck when I have to leave the kitchen - and it faces the right way when I pick it up to check the time remaining. I'd hate to have a clip instead; those are often flimsy and easy to knock out of position. The magnet sticks firmly to the fridge when I'm not using the timer, so I always know where to find it.

The only vaguely negative thing I have to say is that although the display is adequate, I'd appreciate larger numbers. [EDIT May 5, 2010: This product seems to be an updated version of the one I got 5 years ago, and the numbers are indeed larger than the one I have. Yay, Taylor!]

This is a must-have item for anyone who doesn't want to hover around the kitchen so's not to miss the timer going off. When my mom used mine, she went right out and got herself one!

This worked well the first day I had it. On the second day, the small round battery cover started to fall off, allowing the battery to fall out. At first, this happened in the kitchen which has a tile floor; I could hear it hit the floor, pick the pieces up, and keep working. Eventually, though, when I moved into carpeted rooms, the battery cover fell off, I didn't hear it, and when I finally discovered what had happened, wasn't able to find the battery cover.

Having read the other reviews, it appears no one else had this problem, so maybe it was just the particular timer I got. Never the less, I ordered a different brand as a replacement.

Kudos to Amazon, though, for their super-easy return process!

I needed a basic timer that was able to go with me as I moved from the kitchen to the grill outside in order to track cooking and grilling times. Since I am the only "chef" in the house, many times I am preparing side dishes indoors with steak/fish/chicken/pork grilling outside. By having the ability to track "time on the fly", I am able to interact with guests and family and not worry about forgetting about the steaks on the grill, while enjoying a glass of wine or other beverage. The magnet on the back means that I an slap it on the icebox and know just where to grab it when I need it. The cord that is used to hang it around my neck was a concern point when I was first ordering ot as I thought a clip-on would work best, but in hind-sight, the cord is the way to go as your neck goes where you go and it's not going to be bumped off by having a "make do" clip point on a piece of clothing.

If you have ever forgotten you left something in the oven because you were too far from the kitchen to hear the timer, this little gadget will save you from future mishaps. You can wear it around your neck or, because it has a magnet on the back, you can attach to a metal doorframe or store on the refrigerator. Very useful and a great little gift for a cook.

I like the design and lanyard option but my first purchase had a failure of the LCD in the first week of use.
The unit was replaced at no charge, and hopefully the new one will prove to be more durable.

Good for my purposes. I do wish the ring was louder as I am a little hard of hearing.

The timer is almost perfect. It has all the features that I wanted. The one thing that bothers me is that the buttons are all exposed and while wearing the timer, it bumps into things and changes the settings. If they made it like a pocket watch with a cover that opens, it would be perfect.

Have had no problems with this timer...has held up after being played with by kids. Battery ran out almost a year after I purchased it, but I had one handy because this timer uses a common battery that I found at the dollar store :LR44 1.5v (AKA: SR44,SR144,SG13,AG13,A76...)

This is supposed to be Chef quality and supposed to have an extra loud alarm. I don't know how a chef could hear this thing, I can barely hear it!! It is easy to operate and I like the strap, just wish I could hear the alarm!!

The search was for a timer that was not piercingly loud. For this the timer was on target. It did have promise due to an interesting design. However, it was not very well made. The battery came out and we could not get it back in. It was for a meeting where different people would take turns using it, but the operation was not very intuitive. We decided not to use it.
