5.0 out of 5 stars Great Item
Received this item yesterday. I was a bit skeptical, but I measured out water in my regular glass measuring cup and then poured it into the Taylor Digital measuring cup and it was accurate. 5.0 out of 5 stars Great Item, September 1, 2009
By
Received this item yesterday. I was a bit skeptical, but I measured out water in my regular glass measuring cup and then poured it into the Taylor Digital measuring cup and it was accurate. I repeated this experiment several times using different amounts of water. You do need to put it on the water mode. (Simple to do)

Next, I put it on flour mode. I measured out one cup in a dry measuring cup. I tamped it down quite hard and it measured 1 1/8 cup on the digital scale. I thought "Oh NO!". But I realized I had tamped it down too much so I re-measured in the regular dry measuring cup and then dumped that in the digital and it measured exactly at 1 cup.

Just to be clear, I measured items first in regular dry and liquid measuring cups to just test the accuracy of this item. Now that I am satisfied that it is accurate, I will just measure only with this digital scale (not measuring in other cups first).

I think this is a great idea. It has the water mode, oil mode, milk mode, flour mode, sugar mode and a regular digital scale mode so you can measure whatever you want in this cup.

This item turns off automatically after 5 minutes if it is not being used.

I like the easy to read aspect of this. Having older eyes, it is easy to read.

I would definitely recommend this digital measuring cup. It is a good size. Probably would handle any measuring job you would have.

11/08/09 - updated. I love this digital measuring cup even more than I did when I first received it in September. I have now figured out that this has a TARE function so that you can measure one item in there and then tare out the measurement, add another ingredient (and it will measure only that new ingredient) and you can keep adding in more ingredients into this one large measuring cup. It is very handy. No more countertop full of dirty measuring cups. Then I just stir it all up in the cup and pour the batter into a baking pan. Could not be simpler.

Also, you can hold down the on button for several seconds and it will automatically turn off the digital scale.

Love this item!

5.0 out of 5 stars Taylor Digital Measuring Cup/Scale, August 16, 2010
This review is from: Taylor Digital Measuring Cup and Scale (Kitchen)
Based on some of the reviews I had read, I wondered if this cup was was really worth the purchase. When I saw one on sale locally, I decided to buy it combining my store coupon with the store sale price which made the purchase more affordable, since I had my doubts.

After unpacking then reading the instructions, the first thing I did was compare the dry measures with my current measuring cups. They were perfect. Then I compared liquids to my liquid measuring cups, ounce per ounce. Again the measurements were perfect. I would then measure suggested serving sizes from box foods that I would prepare, again the measures were accurate to the cup and ounce.

I found the more I used the cup, the more I liked it but I was still concerned about using the liquids with the electronic device being on the bottom on the cup. I found a way around that. I just put a quart size freezer bag inside the cup before I add the liquids. This keeps the interior dry and eliminates the need to wash the cup out. When using dry ingredients there is no concern, I only need to wipe with a dry cloth and put the cup back on the shelf. I find this works for me.

Another big factor I like is that you can add by weight more than one ingredient at a time without blotching your recipe. Measure store the measurement then measure again as many ingredients as you need. This is really a cool idea.

I have even used my cup to weigh my outgoing letters to be sure they have the correct postage. What a very multi-functional item! NEAT!!

I am not sorry I took the plunge to buy this cup. This is an asset to my kitchen gadgets and my health. I am finding I take more care to eat better balanced food proportions these days. That in itself will more than pay for the cost of this measuring device!

5.0 out of 5 stars The coolest measuring cup/scale ever!, September 17, 2009
I read about this cool new item just now on the market and it's so cool. It weights everything you put in it. I just got mine today and am stillplaying with it. You can use it as a basic scale too, not just for liquids. And easy to use too. I love the Baker's Conversion Chart included for all types of ingredients. No way will I go back to an old measuring cup. This is the digital scale that happens to be a measuring cup!

1.0 out of 5 stars It's a prima dona, not a workhorse., July 15, 2010
This review is from: Taylor Digital Measuring Cup and Scale (Kitchen)
I was given this as a gift. It sounds like a great idea and I was excited to try it. As I read the manual I started to wonder. You can't immerse it in water, so I only used it for ingredients that can be easily wiped out. It has so many settings I had to refer to the manual every time I switched ingredients. There are settings for water, milk, oil, sugar, and flour. And a plain old scale setting. Fluids and solids need different settings, of course. But milk is almost 90% water, so does it really need it's own setting? I'm not using it for some touchy chemistry experiment, I'm making cookies!! You can't put it in the refrigerator or microwave. You can't store it with anything in it--not even a smaller cup. You can't store it near cleaning chemicals. You can't store it on it's side. In my small kitchen it wasn't useful enough to earn it's own spot in the cabinet. This is a prima dona of kitchen tools, I like workhorses. I find it much easier to use a mixing bowl on a regular digital scale.

1.0 out of 5 stars Seemed like a terrific little scale for baking by weight, but ..., July 25, 2011
This review is from: Taylor Digital Measuring Cup and Scale (Kitchen)
I purchased this scale primarily to weigh flours for gluten-free baking for my family. At first, I liked it a lot and gave it a 5-star review--it worked very well for my purposes, large enough for what I needed to back a batch of cookies or a cake for my family. I liked that it wasn't a "countertop" unit that I would leave out on my counter, but something I could stick in the drawer with my other measuring cups and things. After measuring flours I found it easy to clean with a quick rinse and a wipe to dry. I had also read the other reviews on this item before purchasing, and read the complaint that because you cannot immerse this scale, it isn't a good idea to measure oils or liquids. I got around this problem when I needed a weight for a liquid by putting a drinking glass in the cup, reset the TARE to 0 and then adding the liquid to the drinking glass. Voila, no mess!

HOWEVER (and here is why this is now a 1 star review, down from 5 stars), after a couple of months of using the measuring cup, it stopped working correctly. It no longer TAREs to 0. I am very frustrated with this purchase. I recommend NOT purchasing this product.

1.0 out of 5 stars Silliest kitchen tool I've ever bought, November 19, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Taylor Digital Measuring Cup and Scale (Kitchen)
It sounds like a great idea: a measuring cup for volume that will also tell you the weight of what you're measuring. You can finally cook something out of that beautiful Australian cookbook that only gives metric weights for ingredients. Yay!!

And then you read the instruction booklet (actually the best thing about it) that tells you you can't wash the whole thing, just rinse it out verrrrrry carefully. Whoops. There goes any thought of measuring 150 grams of golden syrup, or any amount of oil.

And then when you want to use it for American recipes that only give volume, you realize that it's a 4-cup measure, so it won't work very well for things like flour that you want to measure with the dip-and-sweep method. Or for small volumes, like 1/4 cup.

And you look at the readout that tells you that the cup of milk you're measuring weighs 8 ounces, or is 8 fluid ounces. Um, yeah. Swell, like you didn't know that. But it also tells you that what sure looks like 8 fluid ounces (1 cup) of sugar is actually 1 3/8 cups. Huh??

And did I mention that of course it has to be sitting on a perfectly flat surface, like your countertop -- which means that in order to read the screen, you have to bend over or crouch or otherwise contort your body? And if you pick it up to read the markings on the side of the cup, the scale won't work!

My advice: don't. Just. Don't.

I bake bread/bagels often and measuring the flour has always been so time consuming for accuracy. It's a breeze with the Taylor - just pour the flour in - and voila! My bagels come out perfectly, so I know the cup is extremely accurate!!!! I highly recommend this product!

5.0 out of 5 stars super measuring helpmate, October 9, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

What makes this such a great helpmate is that you can measure ALL your ingredents as you go along in one "bowl". No need to get out several measuring cups which have to wash out before it is used for the next ingredent. The cup clear so ingredents are visable. Another great Taylor product. Great Christmas gift to your favorite cooks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use and indispensible!, February 28, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Taylor Digital Measuring Cup and Scale (Kitchen)
I wanted to learn how to make candies, chocolates, and bread and needed to be able to measure ingredients more accurately. This cup is the easiest tool to use! The automatic shut-off feature is great, and the accuracy is amazing-- I can even measure out a gram of yeast in this cup. Honestly, it has become my indispensible kitchen tool. Forget measuring by volume-- make the switch to measuring by ingredient weight and you will never regret it.
