Timers for reading class,
By Teacher123 (Honolulu, HI United States) - See all my reviews

The timers work fine (it's been 3 months). I bought 8 for my reading class for timed readings. The beep is not too loud, at least it doesn't seem to distract the students. I like how it counts up and down, which most timers don't have. It's also great that it counts up to 99 minutes. The Pyrex timers only count up to 20 minutes. Definitely would recommend it.

Timer used in school,

Great timer for all sorts of purposes. I am using this timer to obtain my students' reading rate as they read orally. It is easy to teach them the formula and how to use the timer to get there. I purchased this particular timer as it counts both up and down and it was at a decent price.

I'm not sure why others have given this little timer such poor reviews. I have owned 3 of these timers and have liked each one. I'm now purchasing 2 more. I use one in my classroom, use one for baking at home and my daugher uses one for timing her homework, husband uses one for timing while he grills. There are so many uses and many, many times I've had more than one going at a time to time various foods that are cooking but need different timers (which is why I'm ordering more). I have NEVER had any problems with these timers and I've dropped them on the floor alot too. The magnet is strong and it doesn't spin on my frig. I love it's size since I can put it in my pocket while I'm doing other things and waiting for the timer to go off. Personally I like the fact that it resets itself to the previous time, this is very handy when grilling and a feature that my family uses constantly. All in all this is a very nice little timer. Basic, easy to use, and holds up well.

Not good quality, get what you pay for I guess,

This is the first timer I have ever purchased that has died on its own and only after a few months. (I have a habit of dropping them in the pasta water) This one hasn't been dropped and it just isn't working right. When you set the timer and think its on (it beeps) you walk away and come back and it never started to count down. Anyway I'm looking for a new one now and I wouldn't recommend this one. It worked okay in the beginning but long term I'd buy something else.

Good as a meditation timer,

I use this timer to let me know when my twenty minutes of centering prayer is over. It has a gentle beep that doesn't jar me out of meditation. Simple, cheap and effective.

Ok, I've owned this timer for about 2 years now. My daughter dropped it, actually, let me rephrase that, THREW it on the floor numerous times from her highchair. It's still ticking. I'm not encouraging people to start dropping their timers, but this guy is not that fragile. For the reviewer that says he has to press it past "99:59" to reset, one word: "Instructions" I don't recall the clock feature stated, but there is a stopwatch feature. (hit the "start/stop" when the timer's reset). I used it to time how long it takes boil 4 cups of water (among other things), so I can use that time as a reference. My one gripe is the small magnet in the back. Because the buttons are on the side, you have to use 2 hands to keep it from falling off. Kinda a pain when one had is dirty (My solution is to keep it on the edge, so I can use my thumb to press the button and 2 fingers on the back to keep it from falling). All in all, a good $5 timer.

Pure Junk....,
By
This review is from: Taylor Digital Minute/Second Timer (Kitchen)
Junk, Junk, Junk....I bought my first timer at a local store, started to use it in my meditation practice. The thing was never used in the kitchen, never dropped or exposed to water. Well...the display failed within two weeks. I then took it back to the store and they swapped it out without any hassle. However...~two weeks later...the display failed in this unit. My wife saw a nicer model made by the same company (Taylor), so I swapped the 2nd unit for that one. Guess what...the display worked just fine...but the timer chirped at the 5 minute mark...no matter what time was entered. (Strike #3 against the OEM.) My wife then contacted Taylor, and they sent us a replacement. However...when unit number 4 arrived...it had the same flaw as unit number 3!!! To make a long story short...look for a different brand than Taylor. I am very dissapointed with their product line.

Teachers are using this timer for reading screening assessments. Easy to use, the beeper isn't overpowering and is perfect for our use. We need both the minute and second feature, resetting is easy to use and reliable.

The alarm is too low. The upper half of the display dissapeared after two weeks, and a new battery did not fix. It is going in the trash. Hope your luck is better.
