4.0 out of 5 stars Mechanical Scale with 360 LB limit
My review is for the Taylor mechanical scale with raised dial, chrome finish, and 360 pound limit/accuracy. It is the same build as model 938, but with a limit of 360 pounds rather than 300.

The scale is durable and functional, but the accuracy is variable. Their box states "accurate to 360 pounds" however, they are confusing accuracy with precision...

1.0 out of 5 stars How it works.
Looks great, but does not work as well as it looks. I started to return it, but, decided to just go ahead and keep it because returning is too much trouble. You have to stomp it two or three times to get it to register your weight. Then ulsess you know your weight, you don't know if it's correct!

4.0 out of 5 stars Mechanical Scale with 360 LB limit, December 9, 2006
This review is from: Taylor 938 Easy-to-Read Mechanical Scale with 5" Raised Dial (Health and Beauty)
My review is for the Taylor mechanical scale with raised dial, chrome finish, and 360 pound limit/accuracy. It is the same build as model 938, but with a limit of 360 pounds rather than 300.

The scale is durable and functional, but the accuracy is variable. Their box states "accurate to 360 pounds" however, they are confusing accuracy with precision. Precision is zero to 360 pounds. Accuracy is within TEN pounds.

I find the following procedures help increase accuracy to within 1-2 pounds.
A) Set on flat surface.
B) Calibrate dial
C) put your full weight on the scale.
D) Step off
E) Wait 2-3 seconds for the scale to settle.
F) recalibrate dial
G) repeat from C

2-3 repetitions are required. It is possible that after a while, the spring will work in and stabilize, but for now, it tends to drift. I don't think this is suitable for lighter people or people who are very emotionally sensitive about their weight. This is suitable for a "pretty close" estimation.

If true accuracy is required, spend the $200+ for a professional grade scale.

3.0 out of 5 stars Looks Wonderful, <<Almost>> Accurate, July 31, 2007
This review is from: Taylor 938 Easy-to-Read Mechanical Scale with 5" Raised Dial (Health and Beauty)
Coming from another Taylor <digital> scale which had zero accuracy OR predictability, I am a bit skeptical about what to expect from this unit for the long haul. However, having just taken the unit out of the box, I feel that the accuracy is within five pounds, depending on the surface it is on and how I lean my weight while standing on the scale. The unit looks fabulous, and as long as I am satisfied to try my weight a few times, and figure it is at least a couple of pounds off in either direction on my final attempt, I am ok with it. I am using it more recreationally, and do not need to record my exact weight on any routine basis.

This scale was a gift for my 94 year young mother. She had a digital scale which was driving her crazy. I decided to purchase a mechanical one for her weighing pleasure. She loves it! ( My only negative regarding this item is the shipping charge. It was as much as the scale which was on sale. I realize that shipping is something over which you have no control).

Hate it! Usually an analog type scale will have a line for every 5 pounds, this scale only denotes in 10 lb intervals....I should have taken a better look at it on line before I bought it. I'm going back to digital I think.

this is a good scale if you want a simple one that is lightweight. the chrome is actually not true chrome but plastic. it is nice to look at, but not as sturdy as you think from the picture.

2.0 out of 5 stars Needle detached, July 27, 2008
This review is from: Taylor 938 Easy-to-Read Mechanical Scale with 5" Raised Dial (Health and Beauty)
The needle pointer can become detached does not give and accurate reading.
If you are patient and jiggle it just right you may be able to get if back in position on it's post.

It has the look of a more expensive rival scale. The numbers are easily seen and the scale's accuracy matches the scale at the doctor's office. Great product for the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product with good size numbers on dial, June 23, 2008
This review is from: Taylor 938 Easy-to-Read Mechanical Scale with 5" Raised Dial (Health and Beauty)
If like me you wear glasses and tend to use your scale in the morning before/after your shower and therefore with no glasses on, you should enjoy the big dial on this product!

It has a cool retro look and a comfortable rubbery surface which is comfortable for your bear feet.

This was overall a great value for the price and it seems to keep pretty accurate readings without requiring constant adjustments.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Product, May 29, 2008

This product is perfect for consistently accurate daily measurements. I like the heavy duty construction and prescision as it is difficult to cheat the scale.
