I can't believe it. The numbers simply washed off. Washed into my food, I guess, as it's only the lowest numbers that are gone--everything from 160º down. Which really is too bad, as I need the thermometer to make yogurt, so need to read temps around 110º. I never scrubbed the thermometer, never did anything to it that I wasn't supposed to do. I'm so FRUSTRATED! Obviously, this wasn't something that could be determined right away, so I didn't return it during the window when Amazon would've taken it back. What a piece of junk. FYI--I've owned this for 2 1/2 months. I've probably used it 6-8 times. I used it to make candy and yogurt. This shouldn't have happened.

As another reviewer stated, this thermometer is huge! The clip on the back of this thermometer is very thin and flimsy. When I clip it to the side of my pot, the thermometer just slides down to the bottom of my pot. I have had to bend and tighten the sides of the clip everytime I use it. A few more adjustments and I am sure the clip will snap in two. I now use one of those big metal clips from the office supply store and use it to clip the thermometer to the side of my pot.

I received this as a Mother's Day gift from my girls. After a couple of months of use the numbers on the left side started wearing off. I tried to just rinse under hot water after each use, but the numbers just slid off in front of my eyes without even rubbing them. Such a waste of money. Still looking for a quality thermometer.

Since everything is made in China and therefore junk, this is a little less junky than most. Yes, the numbers wash off, because these are no longer the days when Americans manufacture anything except bombs. And yes, the glass portion can slide and you have to etch a line in the metal to remind you whether the thermometer is still calibrated,. But unlike the electronic thermometers, this one won't burn up. And when it finally breaks, it won't break your bank account. Oh, for the good old days when the bulb had a point that fit into the metal and the numbers were etched into the metal!

Purchased this item 5 months ago and have used it occasionally for making yogurt..after approximately 10 uses the numbers have worn off the face making it virtually useless..

Love this one! Of all the thermometers I've tried, this one is accurate. Made to last for a lifetime. I'm sold.
