5.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't smell like Avocados, Best Taylor Cream
This is the smoothest shaving Taylor cream. It doesn't smell like avocado! It smells really clean like lavender in a moist meadow with a grassy breeze. If you think the Rose shaving cream shaves well, try this bad boy! I prefer the Rose scent, but this is my second favorite Taylor scent. Don't ever buy the Lemon-Lime Taylor cream - it doesn't smell like lemon or...

3.0 out of 5 stars It's Okay - not a favorite
This has a pleasing fresh clean scent that I didn't find overly powerful. After reading some of the reviews I was excited to try this ToOBS scent but I was a little disappointed. I prefer the Taylor of Old Bond Street Lavender scent, and so does my wife. Yes, the avocado does have avocado oil (listed second to last in the ingredients list), but I really didn't notice too...

5.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't smell like Avocados, Best Taylor Cream, April 13, 2010
Don't ever buy the Lemon-Lime Taylor cream - it doesn't smell like lemon or lime, just a cheap smelling soap.

If you only buy one shaving cream, buy Taylor's avocado.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, August 13, 2009
This review is from: Taylor of Old Bond Street Avocado Shaving Cream in a Bowl [Health and Beauty]
This is the first type of traditional shaving cream I've used and I like it. It smells alright, it's very smooth and comfortable. You barely need any at all, I'd say for the last month I've been overusing so much until I finally realized how little I need, you barely dab your brush a few times and that's it. I would buy again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great scent, great shave, May 20, 2010

Taylor of Old Bond Street is one of the older, better brands I've used. I've been wet shaving with a DE razor and badger brush for 5-6 years and you can never go wrong with ToOBS, Trufitt and Hill, or Trumpers, though the latter two are significantly more expensive than this.

This avacado in particular is a nice departure from my usual sandalwood or occasional lavendar scent. You may think you'd smell too "vegetabley" but it's a very light and calming scent.

I also believe that the avacado oils in the cream improve my shave, as in general I've felt the cream being more rich than other ToOBS lathers.

As was said by others, you only need a tiny bit on the tips of your brush, and I recommend getting a badger brush rather than a boar brush. Amazon has Tweezerman Men's Shaving Brush that I've been using for a number of years with no issues. It may not be quite as nice as those 100 dollar ones with porcelain handles, but it's way better than a boar brush that costs about the same amount.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for winter months or sensitve skin, February 12, 2010

This review is from: Taylor of Old Bond Street Avocado Shaving Cream in a Bowl [Health and Beauty]
I switched from Proraso to this and found that it lathered better (with brush and bowl) than most shave creams I've tried. It also added moisture since winter months tend to dry out my face. Another advantage is that a little goes a long way.

One of the cold, hard facts of life is shaving. Do your face and neck a favor - buy a an old-school, double-edge razor, some sharp blades, a badger hair brush and some of this stuff. The avocado scent is very pleasant and soothing. My face feels better than it has in years. I am 56 years old and this is the best shaving cream I have used up to this point. I actually look forward to the morning ritual. I used to skip the daily shave on weekends, but not now. Avocado is the only variety I've tried, but I understand the violet is quite nice as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smells great, lathers even better, August 6, 2009

This was the first shaving cream other than the aerosol cans that I'd ever purchased and I don't see myself going back to the cans any time soon. It smells great, lathers great, feels amazing. It's not anything particularly fancy... it's just shaving cream after all, but I'm very happy with it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Content With This Shaving Cream, February 23, 2009

The shaving cream lathers well and doesn't require much on the brush, either. It feels great during the shave and afterwards. The scent overall isn't overpowering either.

My only caveat is that, contrary to the product description above, you can indeed smell the avocado scent quite clearly. That's not necessarily a bad thing, of course.

I find this to be one of the best shaving creams available. The Avocado version is my favorite scent (no, you won't smell like a salad). It's best when used with a good brush (preferably made of badger hair). It provides excellent protection from your razor. I find that a tub of this stuff lasts approximately 4-6 months, depending on how often you shave and how large a dab you use; you'll be surprised how just a little dab develops into plenty of lather. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Shaving Cream Ever - Why Bother with Anything Else?, January 11, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Taylor of Old Bond Street Avocado Shaving Cream in a Bowl [Health and Beauty]
Ok, so, I have been shaving the old fashioned way with a double edge safety razor Edwin Jagger Double Edge (DE) Safety Razor - Lined Chrome Handle for almost a year. I've had several shaving creams, including The Art Of Shaving Cream Lavender 5.3 oz, used in conjunction with The Art of Shaving Pre-Shave Oil - Lavender 2 oz, afterwards finished by The Art Of Shaving After Shave Balm Lavender [3.4]. I also used Shaving Cream Unscented, Taylor of Old Bond Street Jermyn Street Luxury Shaving Cream for Sensitive Skin, 5.3-Ounce, and Body Shop For Men - Maca Root Shave Cream 6.3 Oz., and yes, the nasty goop junk food in a can called Gillette Fusion Hydra Gel Shave Gel, Ultra Sensitive, 7-Ounce Bottle (Pack of 6).

Enough product name dropping - Yesterday I had the best shave of my shaving life with this Avocado cream! It smells like Ivory Soap mixed with Irish Spring. The smell is absolutely intoxicating. I thought my Art of Shaving cream was top of the line in terms of luxury and price. I was wrong. You'll pay less for this cream, yet, you will probably not need any pre-shave oil as you do with the Art of Shaving. In fact, I had no iritation and no razor burn when using this cream. It applies real smooth and does what a good cream should. It softens the beard hairs and prepares for a smooth shave. Please don't use this with a Mach 80 or Fuse-what-u-mightcallit cheap-o razor! Please learn how to shave right. It's one of the few pleasures true gentleman get. Life is too short to shave the el'cheap-o way!

My perfect shave starts with this cream, lathered on by a good badger hair brush (of course with really hot water!), followed by another fine Taylor's product Taylor of Old Bond Street Luxury Herbal Aftershave Cream for Gentleman.

You may look at some of the prices and say you can't afford to shave like a King, but, you can! When you factor that you can buy 100 blades for less than $20 bucks, compare that to 4 cartidges at $16! I use 100 Astra Superior Premium Platinum Double Edge Razor Blades which are very smooth and forgiving blades. Pick up a sampler pack to see what works best for your face before you invest money in 100+ blades.

All in all, this cream gives the Art of Shaving a run for their money. I just bought Taylor of Old Bond Street Rose Shaving Cream but I cannot post a review yet as I haven't shaved with it yet.

HAPPY SHAVING GENTLEMAN! (AND LADIES TOO :)

I have used this shaving creame along with many others for two years now and I prefer the Avocado over any other. I get a very close shave with no irritation. My face is smooth and moisturized and feels great.
