First off, Taylor shave creams are excellent. They are comparable in quality to all the other high end English shave creams, and come in a slightly smaller tub for way less money. That's preferable if you're like me and like to stock a wide variety so you can smell what you want to smell whenever you shave.

So check on Taylor being as good as the others. Don't let any reviewer sway you that DR Harris or others are sooo much better. I've found different brands make better and worse in different scents. DR Harris has the best lavender, Taylor has the best Sandalwood, Trumper owns Violet.

This St James stuff is interesting. At first I really didn't care for the scent, and that was after taking in a good whiff at a local shave shop. I came home and ordered on Amazon to save about $10, and when it got to me for whatever reason I just wasn't as fond as I'd been.

That being said, scent is a very personal kind of determination. I like it enough to use it, but it's not my every day smell.

What is EXCEPTIONAL about this product is the quality of its lather. It is far and away the best lathering cream I have ever encountered. It makes me wonder if the smell is just a byproduct of their having crammed every lathering agent into the same cream.

It is extraordinarily comfortable. If I have a special occasion and I need to be as clean shaven as possible then this is what I use. You basically can't cut yourself with this stuff on.

So if you want a super lathery cream and you haven't been happy with others then go for this. It's great with that.

I only gave it four stars because of the less than universally acceptable scent, but I'm tending towards 4.5.

I use Taylor of Old Bond Street for several reasons: 1) the ease of application, 2) the ability to reapply and still have warm
shaving cream to use, and 3) it takes all the hassle away from traveling -- no pressure change affects the solution.

I love Taylor of Old Bond Street products. They genuinely are top notch quality with a bargain price tag. Their shaving creams are no exception either, which I have been using for years.

Pros:
- The lather is super smooth and creamy. Once you learn the right amount of cream and water for your beard, this will make a great lather.
- The cream will not clog a safety razor (I use a Merkur).
- One tub will last 12-16 months!
- The beard softening properties of this cream is unmatched!
- The cream is also high in moisture; I have never needed to use a post shave treatment when using this cream.

Cons:
- I can't get past the smell of this particular cream, and neither can my wife. We both prefer the almond scent by the same company.

Bottom line: I will continue buying their products, just not this scent. If you like muskier and woodsy scents, it might work for you just fine.

I first started wet-shaving when I was 13. I always used the canned shaving cream, like barbasol or gillette, but hated the fact that it made my skin feel so slick and caused me to break out sometimes. And then there is the smell. If I want to put deodorant on my face I will do just that. Taylor of old bond street solved all of those problems. The cream itself works into a great lather and the scents available are wonderful. And considering each jar lasts me about 6 months, the cost is about the same as those canned creams in the long run. If you've never tried it, do so now. If you have, why are you reading this?
